28th January

Nice to see some green across the board after the dips and sideways movement of January coming to an end. This weekend so far there’s been nice steady growth in general, 5-10% in most cases, which is much more preferable to the volatility and bodes well for the next few weeks. BTC has crept over $12k, although it still feels like we’re not quite out of the woods yet. For that reason I’m making a couple of short term plays on alt coins with catalysts like WTC, but always making sure I can sell for BTC quickly. WTC is currently at around $50 and to think I had it at $3 and sold. Ah well, we all do it.

It was really gratifying to know that my research into cashing out quickly had a positive end (see here) and this has meant that I am now able to eye the coming bull run in a much more ‘real world’ light and think about which funds I want to take out and which I want to leave in the ecosystem. I’m buying my wife a Surface Book Pro for her birthday with BTC and have sent the requisite amount of BTC to my Bitpay wallet, but this will only be enough if BTC hits $19k. So BTC has two and a half weeks to get to $19k or she’s getting a graphics card. I’ve got my eye on a couple of short term plays like FDX and NIO which, if they run up considerably, I will be liquidating to pay off my remaining debts (except for my student loan). I came into this game initially in order to try and pay off my debts, but it just shows how incredible the journey has been to this point that I have made 26x that amount and I’ve now moved into the region of considering using it to buy a second property house to rent out. Just nuts, and it shows that anyone can do it if they’re willing and able to put the time in – an appreciation of the tech and the potential of blockchain is important and also adds to the excitement of it without a doubt. To be honest, even if there was no money in this I’d still be really into it purely from a tech point of view.

Given the fact I can now cash out effectively I’ve been thinking more about my passive income strategy. By this time next month VEN will be launching THOR (like GAS to NEO) so I will have six sources of passive income – THOR, INN, LUX, AION, PPP and CAV (CAV is Caviar, an ICO I’m investing in which has quarterly dividends in ETH). Providing they are all at a rate I would happily sell at I plan to sell all of the coins I’ve generated that month on the first of each month and use that money to pay my grocery and bills. If they’re not at a point at which I’d like to sell I’ll leave them on the exchange with satisfactory sell orders. This means the salary from my day job will accumulate for a nice, secure safety buffer I can quickly get to if needed – or finally get a new boiler. On that note I want to start looking into more renewable energy sources as my miner currently costs £67 a month in electricity (£804 per year) to run and I would like to offset that. I have solar panels, but this is Yorkshire in northern England…sun isn’t exactly at a premium. So that’s the next project to look into.

Anyways, let’s see what the next few days will bring. Personally I’d prefer a nice steady growth before another bull run in the spring. Lots of money has been taken out around the world, and I have no doubt that it wants to come back in at the right time.

I feel like I've been reading your daily posts since when you started and the reason why I keep reading them is that in every blog post you put a little bit about yourself which in turn makes me feel I am not only reading something by "another steemian" but by an actual person who has his own little things going on, plans, etc.

I have to say your posts are actually interesting to read, and event though it might sound a bit weird I kinda can't wait until you write about you finally getting a new boiler and getting to £1m! Keep on going and best of luck :)

That's very kind, thanks. It really started as a way for me to chart my progress - I didn't expect anyone else to care! The longer I go on the more I've realised that other people can benefit from my experience, which is great. I don't want it to turn into a diary, but if it's helping get the message across I'll keep it up!
