How to explain what is a blockchain to the average person
This is my version of @neilstrauss's post.
Anything techy makes the non-techy run away like no tomorrow. Most of the people are non-techies. In my opinion, a tech-less explanation would be the best option. I turn every long comment I type into a new post, so here it comes.
What is a blockchain?
A blockchain is a transfer & logging online system. You can use it as a currency and pay with it, but you can also use it to store and keep track of any kind of information.
In each computer, it carries the record of everything that has happened since it started. Changes only apply if enough computers give it's OK, so even if someone tries to fraud a transfer, it would get reversed when a check fails.
It can also allow you to do it all anonymously to protect your privacy, keeping your goods safe from unwanted attention. To get some crypto coins, you exchange traditional money for it, like Dollars for Bitcoin, just like you would if you wanted to get Euros or Yen.
This is really big because it allows you to securely send money and information really fast, all around the world, without having to go through a bank or some other third party that charges a fee and delays the process.
