Non-Profit Org To Utilize Blockchain To Save The Amazon Forest
A New York-based Non-profit NGO, Rainforest Foundation US, is planning to utilize blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies to support anti-deforestation efforts in Central and South America.
Rainforest Foundation is founded by popular musician Sting and has reached out to the cryptocurrency community to form a coalition of crypto sponsors, donors, and media partners who will help stop the devastation of the world’s rainforest.
The NGO is especially concerned about the deforestation and forest fires in Brazil stating revealing that since Bolsonaro took office in January, deforestation in the Amazon forest has increased by 75% and forest fires doubled.
According to reports, the foundation is currently working on a blockhain pilot that will increase transparency on donations as well as researching smart contracts to stop illegal logging, land trafficking and to safeguard forest from gold mining.
