Libra Can Beneficial For UN According To Org Chief

Managing director and head of the Libra Association, Berthand Perez has argued that Facebook-led crypto project might be beneficial to the United Nations to attain its sustainable development goals (SDGs) like eliminating poverty and achieving gender equality.

The managing director shared his views during a blockchain event hosted at the U.N. headquarters in Geneva, where incidentally the non-profit association is incorporated.

Perez also addressed concerns about the Libra project saying that the project is not aimed to create money with the project and does should not pose a significant threat to any country’s monetary policy.

Libra is an initiative that Facebook spearheaded which is seeking to develop a stablecoin backed by a combination of fiat currencies and government bonds which was initially planned to be released sometime in 2020.

Blockchain technology is increasingly being view as a technology that could help organizations around the world to achieve its SDG, which was cited during the 73rd United Nations General Assemblcy (UNGA) in New York this week.
