Former Huobi US Compliance Chief Shares Insight About Crypto Exchange Report

The former general counsel and compliance officer for Huobi US, Harry Zhou shared his insight on the latest report from New York’s attorney general on cryptocurrency exchanges.

Harry represented Huobi for comments on the BitLicense proposal and is a leading expert on blockchain law and regulation.

In a report called The Virtual Markets Integrity Initiative, Barbara Underwood, New York’s attorney general drew criticism for its threats towards exchanges that decline to participate, even though they are not participating in New York.

Zhou states that it is a strange move to threaten exchanges that do not operate in her jurisdiction however other state banking regulators will look at the report very closely.

He reveals that the solution to the dilemma of exchanges trying to navigate the different regulatory environment of each state is to acquire a federal banking license.

However this would mean that the exchanges would have to hold much more capital in reserve.

Civic Partners With Brave

Civic, identity verification Software Company, has recently partnered with Brave Software in which verified publishers using Brave’s platform will be able to verify their identities using Civic’s interface.

The main offering of Brave is its secure web browser used to host a group of verified content creators called publishers.

These publishers set a digital wallet where they can receive payments in Basic Attention Token (BAT).

Users of brave agree to pay a set amount every month, and Brave automatically keeps track of the publishers they visit the most, then divides that set amount according to the publishers whom that user has shown the most attention.

Those publishers will then be able to utilize Civic’s reusable know-your-customer (KYC) identification verification via a Smartphone.

The main advantage of using Civic is it allows for verification without harvesting unnecessary data.

Brenan Eich, CEO of Brave states that Civic shares their values around privacy and protecting user information.

Bitcoin bull and billionaire investor, Michael Novogratz has recently said that the price of Bitcoin price will likely see a 30 percent increase by the end of 2018.

In an interview with CNBC Fast Money, Novogratz said that it is almost impossible not to see Bitcoin at the $10,000 price range by the end of the year.

He also added that the next long-term rally that could possible lead to the valuation of the cryptocurrency market to reach $20 trillion will be triggered by institutional investors due to fear of missing out of the opportunity for the next big bull run.

In addition to this he thinks that in three to six months from now, there will be an all clear sign for big institutions and pension funds to start investing.

The late 2017 market rally was primarily made by retail investors’ FOMO, however institutional investors were not seen coming in since there were no services they could use to invest in the asset class.

Since then significant progress has been made in the space and the same FOMO where there has been movement of capital from the traditional finance sector into the crypto market by retail investors would like also happen again with institutional investors this time getting into the action.
