Annual Ripple Conference Will Feature Former U.S. President Bill Clinton As Keynote
The annual conference of Ripple, Swell will be held on October 1-2, 2018 in San Francisco.
This event invites global leaders from the policy, payments and technology field to come together and discuss how blockchain technology can be leveraged for the benefit of the society.
In the said event former U.S. President Bill Clinton will be one of the keynote speakers.
The conference will include three sessions “Flashtalk” where Ripple customers share what it took to launch the first mobile application, “Central Bank Show and Tell” where bankers share experience with blockchain and the “800 Pound Gorilla” where experts discuss questions about adoption of digital assets.
Northern Trust Aids Hedge Funds Dives Into Cryptocurrency Investment
Another traditional financial institution, which manages over $10 Trillion USD in investor assets, has stepped into cryptocurrency investments.
Pete Cherewich the president of Northern Trust’s Corporate and institutional services division reveals that they have started to operate in the blockchain industry.
Some of its cryptocurrency related services includes Net Asset Value pricing arrangements, anti-money laundering compliance, asset existence validation and crypto-trade reconciliations.
The company is said to be taking a cautious stance on crypto and will tread the nascent financial ecosystem carefully.
BNY Mellon Vet to Head Coinbase Global Compliance Efforts
Cryptocurrency exchange and brokerage juggernaut Coinbase has hired a BNY Mellon veteran.
Horowitz will head the firm’s global compliance effort as it accelerates global operation and expand the supported digital assets in their platform.
Prior to getting hired by Coinbase, Mr. Horowitz worked at a BNY Mello subsidiary, Pershing, specializes in clearing, custody, settlement where he was the managing director and global head of compliance.
He also spent three years as director of corporate investment banking AML compliance at Citigroup, this is aside from his stints at Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Salomon Brothers, and banking regulator FDIC.
88% of Cryptocurrency Exchanges Want Regulations
A survey that was conducted by Mistertango, a cryptocurrency payment app regulated by the Bank of Lithuania has found that 88 percent of cryptocurrency exchanges want regulation and a third believe a market crash is a significant threat to the industry.
This was based from 24 cryptocurrency exchange across Europe, Asia, South America and Oceania with a total trading volume of more than $100 million.
The purpose of the survey is to find out sentiments on regulations, anonymity, and the maturations of crypto market.
It has been widely believed that the crypto community wants less regulations but it seems that the community or the exchanges at lease believe that regulations would bring in more stability in the burgeoning crypto space and it seems that the biggest threat is not overly strict regulation but the threat of market crashing.
Binance Acquires Trust Wallet
One of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange in world in terms of transaction volume, Binance had made its first acquisition.
Binance just acquired Trust Wallet, a mobile Ethereum Wallet that supports ERC20, ERC223 and ERC721 tokens and Web 3.0 browser.
Aside from supporting a wide range of token standards it allows the users to store private keys locally and protected with many layers of security.
It is also open-source whose source code is audited by security experts and has a decentralized exchange through a partnership with Kyber Network.
With this acquisition the CEO of Binance, Zhao “CZ” Changpeng states that now his company has both decentralized and centralized solution custody.
