Facebook Seeking BitLicense From New York State Regulator
The social media giant Facebook is seeking for a cryptocurrency business license from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) in order to be allowed to operate in the jurisdiction.
New York requires a special license for crypto operations called the BitLicense in order to be allowed to operate within New York State.
Libra is set to be released on the year 2020 and Facebook states that they intended to announce early in order to have open discourse with regulators as well as to gather feedback from all stakeholders.
Pundits predicts that due to the scope and the vast numbers of jurisdictions it plans to offer the service, Facebook will have to comply with hundreds or even thousands of different standards and regulations.
