Blockchain-Enhanced Peer-to-Peer Stock Lending To Launch In South Korea
Shinhan Financial Investment will soon offer a peer-to-peer (PSP) stock lending that will leverage blockchain technology.
The new service will be launched later this year and will enable participants to borrow and lend securities with other users directly without going through a 3rd party platform.
Securities lending and borrowing are highly inefficient and expensive for smaller investors to participate in, that is why most of these services are geared towards institutional investors or high net worth individuals.
This was made possible through Shinhan Financial Investment’s collaboration with Directional, a Korean company that has been permitted by the Financial Service Commission (FSC) to provide stock lending and borrowing.
