On December 6, 2017, Everipedia declared that they were constructing"the first encyclopedia on the blockchain." Employing EOS blockchain technologies, they said they're focusing on a cryptocurrency​ token called IQ.​ Not to be mistaken with IQ points, IQ tokens are all Meant to vote protocol upgrades and further submissions or modifications to the Everipedia's database of articlesOn March 7, 2018, Kazemian announced that the airdrop will take place in June 2018.

Blockchain

The decentralized database creates an incentivized peer-to-peer​ system (known as the Everipedia Network) for submitting, curating, and regulating a database of encyclopedia articles. It is completely governed by IQ token holders, who will approve edits, produce network-wide rules that govern the encyclopedia, in addition to purchase and sell solutions for tokens on the network. This may work on Everipedia's website, as well as any website or software built with its own user interface​ to interact with all the Everipedia network (or a subset of this system.

Origins

Everipedia's post module is used to propose edits and submissions in the database. Each edit proposal is sent and stored in an IPFS node​ (InterPlanetary File System); there will be IPFS hashes pointing into the immediate parent version along with an IPFS hash pointing into the new edition.Initially, they started the firm with a mission to build a more modern version of Wikipedia. They had been motivated by Y Combinator's co-founder Paul Graham's blog post published in 2008 entitled"Startup Ideas We Would love to Fund." Including the transferal of tokens, program of transaction fees, the minting of new tokens, and locking tokens for the content consensus process.Everipedia was set by Sam Kazemian​ and Theodor Forselius​ in UCLA in December 2014. The site was created as a side project out of Kazemian's dorm room.Everipedia's encyclopedia is known as the largest English online encyclopedia, with over 6 million articles, including all posts from the English Wikipedia. It's been tagged as an'fork' and'expansion pack' to Wikipedia, since it provides a considerably larger range of posts than the English Wikipedia. This is due to Everipedia's lower threshold for notability and focus on inclusive criteria.Everipedia's official mission is to modernize, consolidate, and decentralize governance of the online encyclopedia. They aim to do this by enabling more editorial decision making in the editing process while at the same time allowing for a wider breadth and range of content from conventional encyclopedia websites like Wikipedia.The concept of Everipedia originated in December 2014 and launched in 2015. Kazemian functions as President, Forselius functions as CEO, Moghadam functions as CCO, also Moore serves as CTO. Larry Sanger, the co-founder of Wikipedia, joined the company as CIO​ in December 2017.
