I've setup a Storj share
After the news about Storj being integrated into FileZilla, I figured I should research this technology and figure out what they do. After viewing their site, I noticed they're similar to Sia, but they don't require as much to start hosting. With Sia, you need to set your drive, set your rates, pay some collateral and have some Sia in your wallet before you can host. With Storj, you can install, set your drive, and begin. If you need to restart your system, you'll lose the current peers and contracts, but not any money.

I've had to restart this a few times, so this doesn't exactly depict my current status as I've had a variation of peers and contracts
You don't get paid in Storj tokens though. When you install the software, you have to give an Ethereum address from a wallet in which you control the keys. I personally like MyEtherWallet since it is a very quick way to create a wallet and doesn't require syncing of the blockchain. From what I've read, payments are at the end of every month. I've only been running the software for about two weeks now so I haven't gotten paid yet, but it'll be exciting to see how much I made next month.

Step 1: Synchronize your clock

I have to give you a huge thanks as i believe you've helped solve another irrelevant issue of mine. I have tried countless times to get an OpenVPN server setup on my pi and connect to it from my desktop with no luck. When I installed DUC for my host domain address, it gave me a public IP that is different from the one I've been trying to use. I'll try the OpenVPN setup again when I have time and hopefully it'll work. Also, the clock synchronization seemed to also fix some issues.
Storj Share works now! I realized I was dealing with a double NAT issue. Once I fixed the modem, port forwarding worked for everything. The 4000 (TCP) port is now green and i have 136 peers with 260 offers!
Thanks for sharing your experience! You do in fact get paid in Storj tokens; they happen to be on the ETH blockchain, which is why the Ethereum wallet is necessary.
Oh ok! Yeah I just looked at the wallet and it does support the Storj token. I was thinking it was converted to Eth.
I tried to setup both myself a few months back. I ran into the same experience. Storj was very easy to set up while Sia, when it required me to have/spend some Sia, I stopped there.
I haven't been running Storj continuously due to some hiccups. So I can't state anything towards payouts. I may set up again to see what happens.
But I noticed that MaidSafe is also in the same game. But I didn't venture there yet. Have you tried MS? I'd be very curious to see how easy their setup is, comparisons, etc.

I tried MS about a year ago but they were in a very early alpha stage so I couldn't test out their software as well. I haven't tried again but I've been meaning to get involved again
Cool! How much space you renting? Also, would you have left your computer running the whole time anyway? I'm wondering (doubting) it's worth the effort if your electricity costs are higher than the return. Have not done the math though.
I keep my computer on for days and maybe restart it once a week. I mine every night and haven't noticed any huge change with the electric bill. You should be fine. A computer idle barely takes up any power.
I bet running Golem and Storj together could net you some profit. Golem I am battling with because most cloud computing rental is already dirty cheap! Hard to see it being competitive
