Tykn Aims To Solve One Big Problem Facing Our World

in #cryptocurrency5 years ago

A famous advocate for cryptocurrency once said, "Imagine what life would be like for refugees fleeing from their countries if they had cryptocurrencies in the smartphones that they are carrying.". Everyday, we see the news reporting about refugees fleeing from the hardships of their country and while having some form of Cryptocurrency is great to buy some daily necessities, that is still very short term. The long term goal for most refugees is to find safe passage into neighbouring countries that can offer them a new place to stay.

However, there are many of these refugees who have lost their documentation along the way. In addition, most documents can be destroyed in the event of a war. As such, these refugees would have a hard time proving who they are. But what if the documentation of one's identity can be placed on the Blockchain? That way, any refugee entering any country's port of entry would have no issues proving who they are in order to claim asylum. That is what Tykn aims to accomplish.

Addressing Real World Problems

Over the span of the last few years, we start seeing an increasing number of reports in the news about refugees crossing borders fleeing their nations for a better life. This could be a result of natural disasters or war. There are many types of problems faced by a refugee when making such journeys, one of them is proving who they actually are.

If the country that the refugee is fleeing from is in the midst of a war, the documentation of that refugee in that home country could have been destroyed. Often, governments would keep documents of its citizens on centralized servers or files. If these items are destroyed, the documentation such as personal identification cards carried along with them can be used, but not authenticated as such documents can be forged easily. To make matters worse, some of these refugees may even have lost these important documents while making their journey to another nation. Once they arrive, it becomes almost impossible to identify them as they have no documentation to prove who they are.

As such, they may end up in limbo for a very very long time, becoming what is dubbed as 'invisible people'. With Tykn, the solution is to decentralize such information on the Blockchain, allowing any government, NGO or any institution to access such information in order to process the refugees. Through Tykn, these institutions can not only speed up the processing of invisible people, but save time and resources by doing so. This is because it takes a lot of workers and funds to check each refugee individually, this has cost the European union up to 1.6 Billion. Imagine if the cost can be halved through the use of Tykn.

Is That All?

To be honest, using the Blockchain to help with identifying any individual is nothing new. Projects such as Truwho and Civic have done this before. However, what sets them apart from Tykn is their focus. Truwho and Civic aims to help businesses and individuals with the pesky KYC processes but Tykn is looking to help the thousands of people stranded in bureaucracy limbo, helping them to move on to a better life due to the lack of the proper documentation.

Tykn will achieve this through the use of their white-label identity management system for humanitarian aid, dubbed 'Ana'. Since the system is decentralized, no natural disasters or war would ever take it down. The system was first tested with Red Cross at San Martin to help hurricane victims rebuild their homes. It will soon be implemented in Africa where the identity of newborn children can be immediately placed on the Blockchain for identification purposes.

Based on this, you see Tykn focusing on making aid available to victims of natural disasters as well as making sure that newborn children have their information stored on the Blockchain. With that, we see Tykn's use of Blockchain in improving the lives of those caught in unfortunate situations. Tykn is also initiating project Zero INvisible Children (ZINC) where they are aiming to certify children immediately in conflict zones using Blockchain technology.

Furthermore, Tykn can also help mitigate human trafficking, fraud and even deaths. There are times when some refugees are turned away due to the lack of proper identification. As such, they may resort to illegal means of gaining an entry to another country. Such methods may include the use of forged documents or even human traffickers. The thing is, when money is involved, it can bring out the worse in humanity with some swindling money from these refugees, trafficking them off to the highest bidder.

As such, if Tykn were to succeed in its planned roadmap, the plight of those dubbed as invisible people will not disappear immediately. However, it is a step in the right direction that will hopefully one day, make this a thing of the past.

Conclusion

The entire post may sound like a post speaking of the exploits of a non-profit organization, out to do good, however, Tykn can still turn a profit. The system on identifying invisible people and determining if aid can be distributed to those in need is a much needed system all around the world.

It is my opinion that it is also a system that would save governments and NGOs a lot of resources. As such, I don't see a reason why they would not invest in Tykn. After all, they are helping the many invisible people and children to a better life. Now that's a blockchain technology that is worth you checking out.

You know , there are 2 sides of a coin here. If identity is on block chain, those who are under protective programs would actually have trouble starting a new life.

If the refugee is under a protection program, he would not need this type of identity because he probably already has it under the protection program. This type of project covers people who are exposed to losing their identity or being destroyed, for example, in the case of Venezuela we have identity and this is a right, but when it comes to requesting a passport many times they are not delivered.

There may be security mechanisms for protected people, also somehow if they do not have an identity they could be exposed in danger since they would not enter another country legally.

In some way or another I think it's an excellent project and on the way it is adjusted what is needed.
