Proof That a Good Number of South Africans Own Cryptocurrency

In case you do not know,

I am a Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Enthusiast who researches and reports updates related to Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology adoption across Africa.

Today's post is about a survey carried out to know the level of Interest in Cryptocurrency in South Africa.

South Africa has the highest interest in bitcoin. This is evident in the fact that the country is ranked first based on bitcoin related searches according to data provided by Google trend. Therefore, it is should be no surprise that Surveys are been conducted to detect the level of interest in Cryptocurrency in the country.

A study named Digital Lifestyle Measure (DLM), conducted by MBIT in South Africa report that 23% of high-tech consumers in South Africa own at least one Cryptocurrency even though bitcoin is the most popular and most common.

According to this Digital Lifestyle Measure report, each level of consumer (low, medium and high) was grouped in correspondence to the Digital Measure which classifies high tech consumers as DLM5 and low tech consumers as DLM1 and medium tech consumers consists of DLM2, DLM3 and DLM4.

This survey was carried out based on a question and answer basis (Q&A) and each person was grouped or classified based on their answers to the provided questions. These questions were mostly centered on digital lifestyle as well as the technological equipments and gadgets owned.

The results obtained are demonstrated in the table below:

The report also indicated that about 42% of the DLM5 are of the opinion that Cryptocurrencies are here to stay, same opinion as 30% of DLM4 and 26% of DLM3. Meanwhile, 34% of DLM3 cannot say what the future will be for Cryptocurrency and 41% of low tech consumers (DLM1) do not have any idea what Cryptocurrency is all about.

Conclusion

This results of this survey can be confusing but show some positivity in the growth and adoption of Cryptocurrency in South Africa.
