Robinhood Vs. Coinbase: Who Will Win the Heart of Maid Marian?

If you're like me, you're a real sapsucker for a good story. And the more romance, fight scenes, and pure drama that story has in it, the more you fall for it. Well, these days, the #crypto world is starting to look more and more like a romantic adventure story, something along the lines of The Three Musketeers or--you guessed it--Robinhood.

Except, there really is a Robinhood.

Stay tuned, Big John, you're about to learn who's going to win the heart of the beautiful and daring Maid Marian.

Crypto News

#Coinbase has been the top dog on the crypto block for almost an eternity. Then they decided they wanted to go after institutional investors, presumably because they have a lot of money. It certainly makes a lot of sense, if you ask me, and along that vein, they've recently launched a crypto index fund called Grayscale.

While Coinbase is planning to eat the rich, #Robinhood -- the mobile investment app -- is courting the poor. Those poor investors who don't enough money to throw at Grayscale, that is.

The secret plot of Robinhood, it seems, is to overthrow Coinbase, who has positioned itself as the Sheriff of Nottingham in the cryptocurrency space. As the story goes, Robinhood snuck up behind the sheriff and gave him a wedgie, then proceeded to kiss the good sheriff's daughter, Maid Marian, right there in public. That's when Sheriff Coinbase threatened to shoot Robinhood in his flat and hairless chest with a huge arrow from Big John's bow, which the father of the bride stole from the town alcoholic and proverbial homeless person (what he was doing with Big John's bow is anyone's guess, but it makes me quiver thinking about it).

I'd tell you the ending, but I don't want to be known as the guy who let the spoiler out of the bag, so be sure to catch it on Netflix.

As it turns out, Big John -- also known as Andreesen Horowitz -- was planning his own takeover of the wealthy elite, so he plotted to double down on the native currency of the forest, Bitcoin.

Meanwhile, a swordsman by the name of #Binance heard about the shenanigans taking place in Sherwood Forest and wanted in on the action. Now, if it was me, I'd have gone to Robinhood and said, "Sir, I would love to helpest thee steal from the rich" and then gone to Sheriff Coinbase and likewise said, "Kind sir, I'd love to helpest thee steal from the poor," and when they both agreed to let me help them steal, I'd take my 10% cut and diddymow on over to Maid Marian's place and order out for pizza. But not this guy. No, he decided to unleash an info app on everybody and put it into beta testing. That damn near killed the plot.

Back in China (on the other side of Sherwood Forest), #Bitmain rose up and secured a $400 million capital raise, but nobody knows why because he already had an ICO planned. Still, that didn't deter Robinhood from spanking Maid Marian's you-know-what for batting an eye at her father Sheriff Coinbase of Naughtyham.

Finally (spoiler alert), Coinsquare rode in on his magical steed and raised $30 million for a cryptocurrency exchange in Canada. As if anybody in Sherwood Forest gives two satoshis about freaking Canada.

So there you have it folks, the down and dirty story of Robinhood and Coinbase, two surly old farts in tights. Can you guess which one got the girl?

Crypto Analysis

Pardon me, but we're going to get technical in today's analysis pieces. In fact, let's go ahead and start with the best read of the day. #CoinTelegraph published an awesome analysis of Bitcoin and all the top #altcoins. The list includes ETH, XRP, BCH, EOS, LTC, ADA, XLM, IOTA, and TRX. Now, eat your alphabet soup.

#NewsBTC says altcoins are stable (I hope their therapist knows that). In this piece, we analyze IOTA, EOS, Stellar Lumens, Litecoin, and Tron. Go to town!

A #Forbes contributor asks, "Where will Bitcoin bottom out?" And that 's a good question, because nobody knows (the trouble I've seen).

It seems that somebody took the initiative and tried to figure out what was driving up Bitcoin prices (it certainly hasn't been recently), and what they discovered is, YOU ARE!

Actually, it's the 'silent majority' of social media users. Which, I supposed, could be you. And me. And maybe even Maid Marian.

Want another technical analysis? Here's one on Binance, the other Melba Toast.

But to answer the most important and profound question of the day takes a lot of hindsight, foresight, and eyesight. That's certainly what ETHNews has. And they're asking if #Ethereum is in trouble because Tron and Icon up and left. It certainly doesn't bother me that they took off with no notice. I just wish they'd closed the door and waved good-bye.

If you're wondering whether or not I take any compensation or receive any benefit from mentioning the companies in the post, the answer is "Heck no!" I'm simply the #editor of Blockchain Times where you'll find plenty of other great crypto news.

Hi Ankit-Singh, I don't make recommendations, but I'll say that Binance didn't rise to be the company it is now if it didn't have something going for it. Thanks for reading.

Great post as always.

@blockurator I would like to speak more with you about this because I have been using coinbase. I thought the Robinhood app was just for stock market options. I need to check more into things. Now if only steemit could have other sources other than blocktrades because they eat up a huge chunk of percentage fees for transfers. Thanks for this post!

No problem, @jennifer78. Robinhood is making moves into crypto. I think it's a matter of a couple of years before they start to give Coinbase a good run for their money. They've got the customer base and financial backing to make a real competitive offer. And that's where they're headed. Thanks for reading.

@blockurator This is good news! Now if someone could give blocktrades a good run for their money! :)

What a fascinating and entertaining post! Great insights, thanks for sharing.

I have both a Coinbase and Robinhood accounts, but I haven’t bought any crypto with Robinhood yet. It’s still in “early access” and I didn’t feel like opting in. Will be interesting to see what happens if/when it goes live.

Domo Arigato.

Yes, I agree, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. What will be Coinbase's response? And will Robinhood execute in such a way that it truly is a competitive service? We'll have to wait and see. Thanks for reading.
