Are student protests across the U.S. grassroots or contrived?

Something about the student gun protests in the U.S. strike me as odd. They seem to be way to organized and happening all over at the same time.I guess you could say that's because a school shooting just happened but I don't know any young people today that could do anything like this without someone else directing and telling them what and how to do it. Also there is the fact that any school that has a walk out or protest by students that the school hasn't sanctioned will emediatly be shut down and the kids threatened with expulsion and if they continue to disrupt the school they will be threatened with arrest.
