Reddit will again support payments with Bitcoins and will add Ethereum and Litecoin

In a recent report, Reddit -web where users publish content and links to external websites- plans to enable payment with cryptocurrencies for their gold membership.

In an interview for Cheddar on Thursday, the head of technology, Chris Slowe, reported that, due to high commissions of transactions with bitcoins, Reddit decided to close its payment service with cryptocurrencies in March; however, they plan to rehabilitate the option and add other cryptocurrencies this time, when they launch their new version of "gold" payments.

Similarly, the company's CTO announced that:

We have evaluated other options that we can add regarding payments with cryptocurrencies. In fact, that was part of the problem with high commissions in the bitcoin network. We are examining the alternatives with Ethereum and Litecoin, which are also offered by the exchange Coinbase [the main payment provider of Reddit].

As reported by CoinDesk, Reddit disabled the "Reddit Gold" option due to:

The change of Coinbase, combined with some errors in the Bitcoin payment option that were affecting purchases for certain users, led us to eliminate Bitcoin as a payment option.

Apparently, Coinbase had made a change to its "Commerce" tool, which now requires users to perform an update in order to run the functions. According to the administrators, this was the main drawback that the platform found in terms of continuing to offer payment services with cryptoactives. In this regard, the administrators added that:

We will examine the demand and see the evolution of Coinbase Commerce before making a decision on whether to re-activate payment services.

Apparently, the demand was significant; Although the launch date has not yet been announced, the founders of the platform rely on the success of future operations for the benefit of the entire community that loves cryptocurrencies.
