New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first. Pakistani bowlers showed brilliance display with the ball and restricted New Zealand to score of 153 runs in first innings. Williamson was the top scorer for New Zealand. He scored 63 runs. For Pakistan Yasir Shah took 3 wickets

Both managed a decent partnership of 86 runs. Williamson departed after scoring 37 runs. Quick wickets of Taylor 19 and Raval 46 restricted New Zealand to 108 for the loss of 4 wickets. At that time New Zealand lead was only 34 runs.

For Pakistan Hassan Ali & Yasir Shah took 5 wickets each.In reply Pakistani openers provided a decent 40 run stand. Imam ul Haq was the first man to go. He made 27 runs. Haris Sohail 4 & Hafeez 10 restricted Pakistan to 48 for 3. Asad Shafiq joined Azhar Ali both made a great partnership of 82 runs. Asad Shafiq departed after scoring 45 runs. No batsmen able to survive against the quality bowling of New Zealand bowlers and all team bundled out at 171 runs.
