RE: Lets try something new - Collaborative Crowdfunded Bountied Flash Stories. 5 SBD+ to win. Winner of last week inside!

That was an awesome take on the creation of the Borg... the only item that I have in contention is how, if all of Humanity was destroyed by the Nano Destroyers, then how does Humanity then encounter the Borg in the Future?

Outside of that singular point, I thoroughly enjoyed the style and pacing and plot. I don't recall off-hand, but do they ever actually explain how the Borg Collective began within the confines of the Trek universe?

RIP Gene Roddenberry & Majel Barrett Roddenberry, your presences are missed

Sort:

A muted cheer and flash as the nemo destroyers finally wiped out the last of those damned fish.

"Where did the keep coming from?", pondered the submarine captain.. "What were they looking for?", he poked as his ration bar on the panel before him, discarded for the celebration.. "Why were they so goddamn big?" came the last thought unbidden, as he felt rather than saw the shadow of the next passing beneath..

it was..

"A Dory!" came the collective gasp as they all saw the ping on the radar.

Goolong pressed his fists to his temples and returned to his personal viewer screen. The Star Trek Tribute to the Roddenberry's was trailing off now, with many thanks to many people. He flipped the close-trigger and watched the screen wink out.

He rose and drifted on soft tendrils towards the front screen, wondering for the umpteen-million-forty-eleventh time how, 600 years in the future, the Roddenberry's were still a hit show.

Ever since the Final Reactors had fallen and the Kingdom Wars had irradiated the mainlands, forcing the remains of "Humanity" under the ocean, viewer shows had dwindled to just a small handful. The purchase price was immense, but he could afford it... after all, he owned half of Oceanis.

Well the ending was mine, and not necessarily where I had been looking to take the story. Last night I thought we just needed a good way to wrap things up.

Consider this a reimagined universe, where humanity doesn't exist to be a part of the federation perhaps.

Or maybe some small corner of the planet, humans were able to lock themselves off until the horde died from lack of food. Unlikely since they could eat the planet itself if need be.

Or... A space going human race may have already had a few ships out exploring. This makes the most sense for continuity. But then we still have to visit how they reclaim earth.

Dunno man. I just needed a good twist to tie up the story. Leave me alone! Lol

That was so awesome.. I freaking loved the ending, so many shivers. What do you think of the text to speech? :D

I'm thinking about trying to chapter them all up at some point and making a collab'd book?

And a good twist ending it was. I really liked how you pulled it into the Star Trek universe. Perhaps one lone Borg, in a future that is completely taken over, finds emotion and goes back in time to stop the collective, but ends up as the catalyst for the Human retaking of the planet before the exodus.

The Borg were awesome. Best episodes for sure.

I agree completely. I love the single-mindedness of it, like a beehive.
