Ovarian cancer vaccine project has just started lobbying the US government

Earlier this month, the lobbying firm Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, and Schreck registered with the government to represent Danish nonprofit OvaCure, an nonprofit NGO of scientists and researchers seeking to find a cure for ovarian cancer. Brownstein's Doug Maguire will be representing OvaCure, a lobbyist who specializes in counseling NGOs like OvaCure operating in “emerging markets.”

According to the OvaCure website, “The annual OvaCure Innovation Summits bring together leading international experts within ovarian cancer, immunotherapy, oncology and innovative technologies. At the summit, experts provide inspiration for and collaborate to develop clinical projects with the greatest potential to cure.” One project launched in 2016 was the Personal Vaccine Project, headed by Professor George Coukos (also on the Clinical Advisory Board of OvaCure).

The patent applications that list Coukos as an inventor show that several of his projects have been assigned to the University of Pennsylvania or involve collaborators Ronald Buckanovich, and Andrea Facciabene. But two published applications pertaining to ovarian cancer treatments show no employer assignation and list both Coukos and Daniel Powell as inventors.

Both Powell and Coukos work with OvaCure. And now, OvaCure has hired Brownstein to lobby the US government on its behalf regarding “health issues.” In its own country, OvaCure board member Pernille Randrup Deleuran is head of the International Department of the Danish Parliament. It's not outside the realm of logical speculation that OvaCure might be gearing up to push for ovarian cancer vaccine made mandatory by law. Time will tell.
