Sweden may be the first country to reach 'herd immunity'

Pay attention to what's happening in Sweden. While they have more deaths than their neighbors, reportedly most of that was in nursing homes, and that:

  1. Their nursing homes tend to have more residents per home than their neighbors.

  2. They did not take any action early on to protect the elderly. And now they may reach herd immunity earlier than other countries, reducing their death count from here on out.

Maybe. I want to keep that word at the forefront here. That's why we need to keep following this story.

Because if they end up with no greater death rate than other countries, but achieve that at a much lower economic cost, that will be an important lesson. And if, on the other hand, they do end up with a higher death rate, we'll have to look at the economic savings bought with more death and see if their choice was a net gain or not, and that will be an important lesson.

(And do not say that no economic savings are worth more deaths. If you really truly believed that you would not take the risks you take in life, particularly driving anywhere that you don't absolutely need to drive to.)

Sort:

The government is gambling with life of my elderly relatives. Fuck em.

The swedish economy wont be saved by taking a chance on this tactic.
We are a exporting country, we need someone to sell to, we can't be the only one whos open.

And our death rate is greatly underreported.
