Coronavirus Panic? What panic..?
Folks, if you think what has been happening is panic, you're sorely mistaken. So far we've seen people being extra cautious, cancel events, and shop like it's Black Friday. You haven't even begun to see the panic yet. You'll know it when you see it.
Our testing is inadequate, but soon won't be. The number of people testing positive will then explode and the panic will rise. Then people will start dying and people will go nuts. Then people will start being cured of it and the fatality rate will drop precipitously and people will start to realise that although it was bad (and perhaps far worse than the swine flu under Obama) we managed to survive it quite well. The markets will get bullish again and make up much, but not all, of the ground it lost.
The media will be utterly discredited for stoking hysteria, but they'll justify themselves by saying that it was the panic that saved us. Summer will come and we'll feel free again. We'll have a moment of national unity and harmony. Then campaign season will get rolling in earnest and we'll go back to hating each other again. There will be a huge boom of babies born nine months from now. Humans feel most alive when they are staring death in the face.
“We now have a strong desire for living combined with a strange carelessness about dying. We desire life like water and yet are ready to drink death like wine.”
~G.K. Chesterton
Actually, I am just joking about the harmony and unity part of this. The bitter partisanship will only increase as more people die and become infected. The media will do all it can to blame Trump and make him the scapegoat. Rage at Trump will make a fine substitute emotion for many people's fear, sadness, frustration and anxiety. The TDS will become a contagion like no disease we've ever seen. The wrath of the Left will erupt like a volcano. But the majority of America will see it for what it is. He'll get his footing under himself, show some moments of real competency, and go on to win reelection in a landslide.
Time to panic was 6 weeks ago. Those not prepared will likely become a statistic.
panic is contagious, as is calmness and viruses.👍🏼
