The film industry has not been profitable for years and in Spain the situation is especially critical. Many emblematic producers and distributors are heading towards bankruptcy. The Filmax group is struggling to overcome the fringe of its creditors' contest, started in 2010, while Alta Films, one of the largest independent groups with production, distribution and 200 screens (the Renoir chain, among them), has just suspended payments.
