The Deadpost Initiative - Week 3 - Share your most undervalued work (SBD prize) + week 2 winners

in #contest8 years ago (edited)

What is the Deadpost Intitiative?

The Deadpost Initiative is an attempt to give love to some posts that were overlookeed during their short 7 day life span, a chance to bring your old posts back to life and maybe make some friends in the process. The goal is not only to share some love with SBD but also by engagement to generate discussion.

Last weeks winners

@holoz0r - $6 SBD prize

Holoz0r has provided us with a Deadpost about death. Death and sleep and art. His post reads like academic paper, an analysis on the depiction of sleep and death in visual art. Holoz0r is an extremely diverse member of steemit and I've been following him for a while. Make sure to check out his work.

Sleep as Death in Art - A study

@lindahas - $6 SBD prize

For the second week in a row, Linda has provided us with a solid underpaid post, this week focusing on how our thoughts shape reality, a topic which my posts often touch on. Though she doesn't mention the law of attraction at all, it certainly sounds similar to such a concept, and she has her own personal experience to support such ideas. I love to see dialogue up in the comments and @lindahas seems quite good at generating it. :-)

How Strongly do I Have to Believe to Have Wings?

Runner up: @pathforger - $4 SBD prize

The ultimate conspiracy, a culmination mega deluxe conspiracy, supersized. @pathforger invites us inside a meeting of the most powerful influential people in the world during their plan for total domination. A lighthearted take on some serious subjects.

What a great initiative! It is sad that posts only live for a week and then are condemned to "oblivion".
I'd like to share this short story of mine:
Alma - A Short Story About Depression
I hope you enjoy it!!
Thank you, people!! :)

I am sure Alma must've done pretty well after that realization,
because depression might seem to be an enemy, but with peace it has a strong relation.
It always leaves people with 2 choices,
it either ends their lives, or gift them with their voices.
Depression takes you on a ride across realities,
and makes you reach to the point where exists no more formalities.
It strengthens you, upgrades you and refines you,
depression helps you evolve and helps define you.

Beautiful @himshweta! Thank you!! :)

Oh, its all my pleasure. Thanks for that motivating story about Alma. :)

I loved your post! There is something so dark about mental illness. I think it is the helplessness that gets me the most, you feel you have no control over your own body, stuck between wanting to die, but staying alive because of the survival instinct, still not really being alive. It is a world of torture, your own personal hell.

I think there is something wicked about some parents that smother their children, I think it is a selfish thought to keep your child as close as possible if you also make all the decisions for him/her, a lot of parents want their kids to do what the parents could not.

I have had mild depression and that was already hard as you just feel this emptiness in your body, there is nothing to take from it and the only thing I think about it is that I never want to go back there to that point. I do not want my mind to slip away into abyss and all those negative thoughts are not helping with anything.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts @lindahas!! I have had my past with depression, but hopefully I seem to be getting over with those days. Once you've tasted it you never want to go back. Even though there are times that you start flirting with it, you must be strong and not let it take over you again! We are our own saviors! We have the strength inside us! We can live healthy lives if we try!

Yes, we can! I have had a shadow leaning over me the last days, but I think I can get over that, it is just the unease that makes me a little afraid of the direction my thoughts are going. It should be okay, though.

I believe you can fight it! I know you can!

Thank you, that is really heart -warming of you!

Alma sounds like many people I know. Aside from depression, it highlits a problem that many parents have, trying to live vicariously through their children. I believe many people's desire to have children comes less out of love and more out of a desire to stop growing themselves and misplace energy meant for personal growth into someone else's growth.

Depression is a symptom of deeper problems. In many cases it's a reaction to feeling a lack of control over life, and in many cases it's really easy to feel a lack of control over life. But one always has control over how they react to certain situations. I was on he road to be someone like Alma but early on I drew a line with my parents and later with myself about how much stress I'd be willing to handle from a job.

Yes, the power lies within us! In such cases of emotional oppression it's important to realize it soon enough to protect yourself and start caring more for you, even though that may sound selfish to others (the one's that can't control you anymore).
It's on of my main beliefs, yourself will be the you'll be carrying for life, treat it with the respect it deserves.

Love this initiative :D Here's an oldie I like: https://steemit.com/animals/@trumpman/strange-animals-red-lipped-batfish

Loved the weird red-lip ladyfish (this is my name for the fish) :D

I love to find out about new unusual animals that I have never heard about, especially the pretty ones like this :D

Glad you liked it! I don't want to self advertise but I am posting about strange animals almost on a daily basis :p Feel free to check my wall :p

I know, I have seen and read your posts in the MAP room.

you should do a series on real life Pokémon. How about the sugar glider and those micro foxes? The world is full of incredible things.

thanks, that's a great idea actually, I will keep it in mind for the future ! :D

I once wrote about the importance,
of making and choosing your close friends,
but don't know why,
it vanished in the steem sky,
I am a poet, and mostly write about philosophies,
I might be able to do it because of my high level of curiosities.
Here is the link to that undervalued article,
I don't wish to win, just want my write-ups to change someone's life into a miracle.

https://steemit.com/friends/@himshweta/how-i-choose-my-friends-and-why-is-it-so-important-to-you

I can understand why you don't want to make friends with just anyone. I keep a loose definition of friend. I know a lot of people and which are friends might change many times depending on how we both grow and how our relationships grow. It's not really important for me to think about which of these are good friends because I don't have a strict idea of what a friend should be. I have a thousand kind of friends and most of them aren't very close but that's ok. As long as quality is more important than quantity :-)

Well it is not about the definition of friend that actually matters, neither the relationship or good or bad FRIEND but more about good or bad PERSON.

I'm not participating in this but I just want to share my 3 month old post here:

Foood

It has been amazing participating in this contest and reading posts. I have this one, that comes from my first month on steemit, it is about my issues with my mom, the ones I had to get over. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Why some of us resent our parents at some point in our lives

Thanks for sharing a little about your personal life with me. I always see my parents as always so tough and amazing. Whenever I do something wrong as a little kid, I would run to them. But they too are only human. But they're still special to me :)

Yeah, I love my mom as well, she is amazing. There were some things in life that did not make me completely happy about my upbringing, but it made me who I am and that I am endlessly thankful for.

I'm sure you are now an amazing lady! :)

I hope so, but you never know! :D

Thank you, @whatamidoing for organizing these contests. :c)

As a runner-up for the previous contest I shall this week be bowing out graciously to provide other contestants more breathing room.

You may see me joining the next contest. ;c)

All the best to all the particpants! :cP

Honored to have been considered a winner of this initiative! :) Interested to see what other people come up with this week.

Here is a dead post... sadly :( I was sharing my passion and some technicalities in this post about how the short film 'paperman' was made. In hopes that, people would see the thought process of animators/artists go through to bring entertainment to the world.

https://steemit.com/animation/@zord189/the-making-of-disney-s-paperman

Thank you for hosting this. :)

I think this post died not because you are a bad writer/reviewer but because the animation itself is boring and not Disney's normal story type. Your review was good though I liked how you showed the work behind making it.

Ohh, maybe I should choose something more interesting next time. I actually really like the story of paperman.
