New Contest! 2 SBDs, Author Rewards and More - If you can write 17 syllables!

in #contest3 years ago

Source: Giphy

I love Steemit for the fun contests. There are TONS! Follow @moneyinfant to hear about all of them, including this one!

If I had more time, I'd enter many, many contests. Instead, I started my own! If you have 30 seconds to spare and you can write 17 syllables, you can win 2 SBD, author rewards, and some free publicity.

Read below for more about the contest instructions, how to participate, awards, and how I'll select a winner.

Contest Instructions

Write a haiku about weeds. References to marijuana will be allowed. (This theme was chosen out of several suggestions.)

For this contest, your haiku must be a one-stanza, traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm. Here’s an example:

Spring brings garden pests

They do not hop or burrow

I spray them away

You may submit multiple haikus, but you need to make each haiku its own reply. Each one will be considered a separate entry.

How to Participate

  1. Reply below with your haiku. Deadine: 11:59 pm UTC, April 7, 2018.
  2. Upvote this post. Deadline: 11:59 pm UTC, April 7, 2018.

That's it! But...

You should also resteem this post to increase the winner's prize and give yourself some free exposure! You can participate without resteeming -- I don't give preference -- but if you do resteem, it only helps you.

Also, post your entry on your own blog! Mention @vdux and I'll give you an upvote and resteem your post.

Awards

Winner gets:

  • 2 SBD
  • Half of this post's author awards
  • One free "shout-out" for winning
  • One free resteem from me for any of the winner's posts. (You choose the post. There's no time limit but I reserve the right to refuse resteem any post I consider offensive or indecent -- I'll simply ask you for a different, non-offensive post.)

One runner-up gets:

  • One free "shout-out" for winning
  • One free resteem from me for any of the winner's posts. (You choose the post. There's no time limit but I reserve the right to refuse to resteem any post I consider offensive or indecent -- I'll simply ask you for a different, non-offensive post.)

(For examples of shout-outs, read the shout-outs for my most recent contest: Congratulations to @felicitas, Big Ups to @rlt47, and Spreading Love to @Pocketmouse.)

How I Will Select the Winner

Within 2 days after the deadline, I will read all entries and choose a winner and runner-up. While I'll take upvotes into consideration, my selection will reflect my personal preference based on the entries you submit. So far, it's been very, very close call with lots of great entries to choose from. Feel free to reuse a haiku from the past and write as many as you want.

I run this haiku contest regularly so if yours doesn't win, try again next time.

Awesome job everybody who entered my previous contests:

@millennialnow, @mysearchisover, @yahialababidi, @givonwayne, @pinkgeek, @boxcarblue, @ablaze, @tygertyger, @hope-k, @rexdickson, @crescendoofpeace, @andysantics48, @jacksonl, @lymmerik, @peacemaker, @dildil7401, @mermaidvampire, @geoffreydemars, @kimberlylane, @jadams2k18, @digitokash, @theunlimited, @acousticsteveo, @theodora87, @mysecondself01, @puppetmaster1111, @viking-ventures, @dmilliz, @rlt47, @pocketmouse, @jacksondavies, @ohkaaay, @eprolific, @lologirl, @lazarus-wist, @dbooster, @janesmy081316, @felicitas, @robsteady, @dizzyjay, @wplymouth, @kerry234, @ivanlager, @caesar2341

Also, nice novel.

Moonlit path glistening
A weed glistens in a solace
Rain silently patters

Cool. Does this follow the theme of weeds?

Also, all entries must be a one-stanza, traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm. I have this rule so all entries are judged on the same basis with the same rules. Can you revise?

My apologies I did not see the theme just the Haiku part I will revise it
Revised this one I'll make a new one though.

Thanks, I look forward to seeing it!

Don't kill the bees' food
Dandelions are yummy
Spring pollenators

I never thought about that. Wow. Respect! Thank you for entering the contest!

Thanks for hosting it! :)

We thought those are weeds
They needed just patience

Wonderful. Really nice. Thank you for entering!

Humanity kills
Like weeds we suffocate life
Earth needs a cleanup

Oh. Feeling guilty now.

Guilt really never helped anyone ...adjusting one's behaviour however.... :P

Today's farmer's wish,

Harvest the weed not the crop,
Weed got more value!?

Great, can you make this a traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm? I ask everybody to use the same format so everybody follows the same rules.

Oh yeah, my bad. Thanks, got that rectified! :)

Nice! Thank you.

Bonus for the picture. Is that last sentence 5 syllables?

@vdux - No. Clumsy mistake; fixed. Thank-you. :))

Noted. Validated. Boom!

A life with meaning
Turns to a chemical death
We pull the trigger

hopefully that's not too depressing :/ just what I came up with, and I don't hate it :)

I like it! Poetic. Tragic. Poor weeds.

Merely nature's gift

Beneath pleasant weed

Nice! Did you take that picture?

I wish. It is public domain at pixabay. That grasshopper enjoys weed.

Flowers are pretty
Weeds are medicine to you
Be one with wellness

Pain, is not this real.
Time, is an immortal soul.
We will; become one.

I love haiku! @vdux thanks for the shoutout, always killin it with awesome contests. Much love. Just realized I wasnt following you! My steemify app let me know. Its made my @blockbrothers followed now. Wont miss any more of your blogs.

Great! Good to see you again! I use steemify too.

Can you revise the first line so it's 5 syllables? I'm a stickler (not in real life, but for the contest) because I want everybody to have to follow the same rules. Fairness, and all.

Oops didnt catch that! Edited!

it's still 6 love pain -1 not -2 re-3al-4 li-5 ty -6

Im so dumb. Holy cow. K

May I suggest- pain is illusion

you're not dumb ... sometimes reading it aloud helps ...

P.S now it's 4 not 5 LOL don't kill me ...

D: okay not dumb but in need of a serious visit to grammar school.

next time sound it out and use your fingers to tap it out it can help it translates it into music

Thanks for your haikus! I posted the winners announcement. https://steemit.com/contest/@vdux/5nvr3g-vdux-haiku-contest-winners

Lovely! Thank you for the picture, too.

Thank you @vdux, glad I could join in this time. :)

Thanks for your haiku and beautiful picture! I posted the winners announcement. https://steemit.com/contest/@vdux/5nvr3g-vdux-haiku-contest-winners

So hard to choose!

i saw, i'm no expert (my 3rd attempt at a haiku) so i have no idea what judging may entail. i do help judge contests but not poetry or haiku.

hi! my Dear @vdux!!!! Long time no see... Here is my entry:

I spread everywhere

I do also have to live

please do not kill me

I did a haiku about those annoying weeds that grows around my plants. But they're so small and cute that I don't want to eliminate them

Hey there! Good to see you again, too. Another awesome haiku! Is that from your garden?

Yes! I put them first in a pot until they're big enough and then I take them to the garden. I had never planted plants. I'm doing it recently...

Cool! Making sure this is the right entry:

we take from the earth
or does the earth give to us?
Freedom blossoms here :)

Yea?

Thanks for your haiku! I posted the winners announcement. https://steemit.com/contest/@vdux/5nvr3g-vdux-haiku-contest-winners

Love, heal and give life
Yet weeds are misunderstood
God makes no mistakes

Sweet. Can you make this a traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm? I ask everybody to use the same format so everybody follows the same rules. The middle sentence is 8 syllables.

Fixed. Nice!

@moneyinfant has added your contest to the list Steemit Writing Contests: Issue #67. The list is updated on a daily basis and your contest will remain on the list until its expiration - there's nothing you need to do.

The list was created to save writers the excessive amount of time spent searching through the #contest tag for writing contests. Now they can just come to the list each day, see new contests and use their time doing what they love - writing.

If you'd like to help spread the word about the Steemit Writing Contest List I'd really appreciate a resteem, but it certainly isn't necessary. The project is simply meant to help writers save time and contest creators attract more contestants.

P.S. If you know of any contests I've missed I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!

Couldn't give any more hours
now weeds only remain

Thanks for the entry! Can you make this a traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm?

Also, I listened to you sing. You have a beautiful voice!
