Try the cloudships of orion series by P K McAllister. Three books, hard sci-fi (not magic) and it will pull you in. Fun Times, LOL! But, steemit is costing me time too! Oh Well.... :D

Yes, and he makes it part of the story line. A really good job mixing it in, to support the story.
