Right on! I didn't know they wouldn't take bags left out like that where you are. They do here, at least, in most places that I know of. It always happens around Xmas when people have excess trash, and they still take them. Good of you to take them to the tip!
It varies from local authority to local authority. This especially causes problems at the end of term when the student population moves on - mountains of black plastic bags. The council resolved this by hiring skips in areas with high student populations at term ends.
