She closed the door gently, but couldn't lift her hand from the knob. She leaned against the wall, frozen, with the confused expression of someone who forgot why they walked into a room. She pushed the door back in slowly, careful not to make any noise, held it there for a few seconds, and closed it again. No! she thought. Go, please go! Her legs started moving awkwardly, like they had forgotten how to walk. She pressed the button for the lift, but couldn't get in when the doors opened, and stood there motionless until the doors closed again. A note! Maybe I should go back and write a note! She started walking back quickly, so that reason wouldn't catch up with her.

As quietly as she closed the door, she turned the knob once again and slowly pushed it open. The lights are still dim. He hasn't woken. She looked at the man slumbering peacefully on the soft round-shaped floating bed. She still can't believe she will be entrusting her son, the sole heir to the throne, to this person. He abandoned them. She could not understand why but he left her. She knows he loved her, still love her, but it's already too late. She had to go back to her kingdom before the trackers find them and kill her son.

One note. She found a pen and paper beside the telephone. She sat beside the bassinet and peeked at her son, peacefully sleeping, unaware of the obliteration his world faces. She then started her note.

My Dearest Love,

We were born of different worlds. And ours was a love so special and divine.

She fought back the tears trying to trickle down her face. She remembered how he met him. He was mesmerized with the human world, she had disobeyed her father. She disguised as one of them and had collected human stuff campers left in the forest. She was oblivious of the set of eyes silently watching her, admiring her innocent gasps of awe as she examines the crumpled the little flicky thingy that shows black and white image of what seems to be a little portion of their kingdom, the Forbidden Forest. This person, whoever he is, seem to be in the verge of discovering their civilization. She's looking directly at the gates of their village. So this is how it looks like from afar, she muttered. She has been too busy trying to escape from her royal guards to notice the multi-colored flowers and the vines creeping on stone walls. To the naked eye, this is just another gigantic stone in the forest, but to them, this is their gate that swings open to a whole new environment of fairies and bugs and insects all living peacefully and harmoniously under one ruler, her father, the king. He keeps the balance in the forest. He keeps the flowers abloom, the trees tall and green, the rivers gleaming and clean. He restores what is lost and replaces what cannot be. And as his only daughter, she is to marry a fairy so she could give him an heir. She completely revolts the idea. That's why she always runs away every chance she gets.

She heard movements from behind her and before she could hide, a handsome young man, about thirties, tall and dark and lean, appeared. He must be the owner of this flicky thingy. He smiled at her. And she has never seen anything more beautiful than that pearly white smile.

They became friends. He mistook her for a native residing in the forest. He is an ecologist studying the forest. He suspects that there is more to the forest than meets the eye. He thinks there are other beings aside from them.

Not because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.

That's what he always say. As is their connection. What started out as friendship became deeper. They fell in love with each other. And soon, she bore a son. Her father was furious when he found out about it. But she was determined to keep his son and the human she loves. She ran away, this time for good. With the human. What she thought was a happily ever after soon came to an end when one day, he abandoned her and her yet unborn child. Left with nothing, she went back home to her father.

She soon gave birth to the young little prince. Her father the King learned to love the young little baby. But he was about to give him a very heavy task. He will be the next protector of the Forbidden Forest. Aware that his father is already very old and is getting very sick, she agreed and went through with the ceremony. It was the summer solstice. As the moon aligned with the Great Tree, her father's powers were transferred to his son. Just as the last drop of magic was to be transferred, darkness covered the surroundings.

With her fathers as the protector of the land, the keeper of balance, there is the dark force in the forest that keeps the rot. It was his father's archenemy, his banished brother who have always wanted to take his father's place. But he did nit want the power to keep the balance, he wanted it so he could destroy all of the forest and keep away all the intruders.

There was a great chaos as his uncle's army ravaged the ceremony. She was led by her father to a secret dungeon so she can save her son.

Live today and fight another day, my dear.

And he told him the real reason why her father's son had left them.

I told him that the forest needs you and your son and that he is in the way. If he doesn't leave then all will be lost. He is a great man for he sacrifices his own happiness for the greater good. Go to him. He is your only chance of survival, for now. And promise me you'll not come back until it's time.

With mixed emotions, she fled with her son and flew to the human's home. A loud slap of thunder jerked her back into her note.

I know now why you left me and I am not angry. I love you even more. It is for the same reason that I am leaving our son to you. Please care for him the way you cared for me when we were together. It pains me to leave you and our son but my home needs me right now. There is a necklace underneath the bassinet. Hand it over to our son on his eighteenth birthday. He will understand everything. He is no ordinary human or fairy. He is the hope this world needs. He is destined for greatness

She wiped her tears, kissed her son one last time, gave a final glimpse to the man asleep and left as quietly as she came.

As she closed the door, there was a rumbling sound behind her. They had found me! She gave a loud shriek and a blinding light washed away all her enemies. The door behind her opened and out came the human she fell in love with. Surprised, with tears in his eyes, he quickly caught her just as she was about to pass out. He was holding her in his arms. She smiled. Touched his beautiful face. Isn't this the sweetest way to go?
No, don't say that. I thought I'll never see you again." He was crying.
I'll always be with you. I promise. Please take good care of our son. I love you my dearest."

And she turned into beautiful tiny lights that crawled to the man's home as if covering it with a protective layer. Inside, underneath the bassinet, the necklace of tiny scroll glowed in the dark. And just like that, she is gone.

Love doesn't make the world go 'round; love is what makes the ride worthwhile. You call it madness? I call it love! (ang sabi ng mga magagaling at batikang manunulat). Ang sabi ko naman, love is like bubble gum, kung mupilit, maka boang! (kung dumikit nakakapraning)

Wahahaha. Mas gusyo ko yung sabi mo. Panalo! Hahaha
