RE: Steem Basic Income Giveaway: Rational or Emotional?

in #contest5 years ago

I'm an emotional person. I used to take things that people say to heart a lot and would get easily offended but I'm getting better. That's why I would say it's me important to be rational. To me, that means being logical and trying to solve problems according to reason. With a clear head and logical thinking I think almost any problem can be solved in most situations. It gets unclear once emotions get involved say for example in ethical dilemmas

Sort:

That's interesting that you describe yourself as one and would prefer the other! Definitely, being rational can help by not taking an immediate response or position and just taking your time to think (which I know can be also infuriating for others....)

With ethical dilemmas, I don't think it is possible to come to rational solutions... after all, there is not enough information normally in those cases to weigh the outcomes in a fair or objective way. For instance, what is the worth of one life compared to another? It is impossible to quantise that sort of thing...

That's the exact sort of example I was thinking about. Say for example that there are 5 people waiting for organ transplants. There is a compatible donor who is also sick but if he dies, may save the other five. Save one life and let the other five die or sacrifice the one to save five?

Heh... the logical solution is just to kill him... but for some reason, that sort of thing is frowned upon these days.... just got to do it subtly!
