Results of DBG 49

Hi everyone, thanks a lot for sending your answers to me! This was the correct solution of DBG 49:

I received 7 correct solutions:

The winners were @onefatindian and @im4g1n4t10n receiving 0.5 - 0.5 SBD + 12 XP. Congratulations!

This is how XP was calculated:

1st: 10+2
2nd: 9+3
3rd: 8+1
4th: 7
5th: 6
6th: 5
7th: 4

I generated a random number to see who wins the 0.25 SBD. The random number generated was 5, therefore the winner of the random reward is the fifth person sending in the correct answer:

The random reward of 0.25 SBD goes to @maikelmichiels. Congratulations!

Today's puzzle

Divide this grid into five-cell areas containing each of the five different letters once (A, B, C, D, E). The borderlines of these areas can only run horizontally or vertically.

To participate in the contest, please do the following:

  1. Upvote the post (if your upvote does not reach 0.01 SBD, it is advisable to send a small bid by a bid bot).

  2. Send your answer to me either as a private message on Discord (@ksolymosi#5065) or in an e-mail message ([email protected]). If you use Discord, please make sure that your Discord name is the same as your Steemit name, otherwise, it will be difficult for me to find you...

  3. Comment on the post containing the puzzle mentioning where I should look for your answer (for example „Answer sent via Discord").

Don't post your solution under the post containing the puzzle because then you ruin the game of others!

The answer should contain the identification number of the puzzle, too (for example DBG 11).

Answers should arrive until I post the results of the actual game (usually between 12.00 am and 8.00 pm UTC+1, but exceptions might occur...). This leaves approximately a 12-24 hour time window to send me your answers. (Answers arriving later will not be considered.)

It is possible to correct your answer by sending another solution, but only the last message will be considered for the reward. (So if you send the good answer first and then send another message with a wrong one, then, unfortunately, the wrong one will „participate" in the game.)

Please do not ask clarifying questions. I do my best to phrase instructions as clearly as possible. So everyone should work from the amount of information given in the post.

Detailed rules and information on the scoring and rewards can be found here, here and here.

I thought under the new rules, the random winner doesn’t get XP?

It looks like it's just written there, but the XP does not look like it gets applied.

Just something that needs to be removed.

Removed it, sorry... :-)

No, doesn't get, just forgot to delete that part... :-)

Answer sent via email.

Also, My answer was correct, but I am not on the winner list. I hope you are not penalizing me for not typing in the full name because I thought it was still obviously clear.
Please double check. :)

No, absolutely not!
But unfortunately I did not receive your second (correction) letter yesterday.
Probably you have sent it while I was already doing the post...

Yes, that was the problem... The post was made at 9:34 yesterday, your e-mail arrived at 9:44.

I don’t understand, I sent it in the afternoon afternoon and the following post didn’t come out until the next day. More than 12 hours later.

Well, I guess time is indicated according to my time zone, but anyway, unfortunately, I did not have your last letter in my inbox when I posted the results.

Regardless what time zone you are in. I just checked and I sent it almost exactly 24 hours before the next puzzle was posted. Time stamps on emails don’t lie. So something is not adding up.

That’s unfortunate.

Well, that's strange....

Anyways, there's yesterday's stamp above, so I believe you. I edited the post with you included (but that's changing the result of others, too).

Maybe you saw the time but not the right date? Anyways, Thanks. Appreciate all your hard work.

I like the new way you're doing the puzzles. I just came back to steemit after a long break, I'll get back into doing your daily brain games tomorrow, they have always been so much fun!

Great, welcome back on board!

@ksolymosi thanks for doing this, it looks fun. Question, your demo answer has borders that go vertically yet above it says they can only be horizontal. Can you explain please?

Divide this grid into five-cell areas containing each of the five different letters once (A, B, C, D, E). The borderlines of these areas can only run horizontally or vertically.

@ksolymosi thanks for doing this, it looks fun.

Had a question but just edited to remove that question as I misread the instructions!

Divide this grid into five-cell areas containing each of the five different letters once (A, B, C, D, E). The borderlines of these areas can only run horizontally or vertically.

Question @ksolymosi do you mean into a total of 5 areas or into as many 5 cell areas as possible? It seems too easy to do 5 areas in total.

Also, do the areas have to all touch or can they be spread all over the board?

I tend not to answer clarifying questions, sorry. Everybody has to work from the amount of information posted.

I need a clarification for the previous puzzle answer. "Jonathan just beat out Courtney to come in directly behind Tony. Two other runners were behind Jonathan but before Rob"

  1. the word "other" implies two runners other than Courtney
  2. "just beat out" and "were behind" implies that even before Jonathan beat Courtney two runners were between Jonathan and Rob

I had initially come up with the order posted as solution above but had to change because of the above mentioned 2 statements

These are independent statements.
The first implies that the order is Tony, Jonathan and Courtney.

The second says that there were two runners AFTER Jonathan and BEFORE Rob.
