Though I did not receive a lot of votes, I can definitely announce a winner (receiving 6 XP plus 0.5 SBD) - the one who has got 3 votes was @loso with idea number 11:

Actual status of the monthly leaderboard

After adding the above-mentioned XP to the winners’ accounts, this is the actual status of the monthly leaderboard – but we still have two weeks left from the month, so you can change everything!

New rules

I have been thinking about having another slight change recently, but a few feedbacks plus the "crowd" on the second and third places of this week's leaderboard made me do it quicker than I planned.

So: from next week the XP you receive will depend on how many good answers arrive for the given game. We will always count back from 10. The first one sending in the correct answer receives 10 XP, the second 9 XP... and so on.

If there are more than 10 answers received, then everybody at the end will get 1 XP. If there are less than 10 answers received, then it was probably a difficult puzzle, so the remaining XP will be divided between the ones sending in their answers.

For example, if 5 correct answers are sent in, then 15 XP will be added to the ones sending in answers:

  • the first one gets 10+5 XP,
  • the second 9+4 XP,
  • the third 8+3 XP,
  • the fourth 7+2 XP
  • and the fifth 6+1 XP.

If there are 8 correct answers, then 3 XP will be added:

  • the first one gets 10+2 XP
  • the second one gets 9+1 XP
  • the third one gets 8 XP and so on...

Additionally, the quickest to send in a correct answer will get 1 SBD (as before) and someone will get a random reward of 0.25 SBD (but there won't be any additional XP granted to these bonuses).

Let's test this version together and let me know how do you like it!

I am doing my best to post games at different times during the day to outbalance different time-zones, but sometimes I got busy and can only post late afternoons or evenings. Well, it seems that this is part of the game, too.

Have fun everyone! New games are coming from Monday!!!!

For example, if 5 correct answers are sent in, then the first one gets 5 XP, the second 4 XP, the third 3 XP, the fourth 2 XP and the fifth 1 XP.

Ok about this part, lets say one day 20 people solve easy puzzle and the winner or easy puzzle gets 20 XP, and the other day we get a difficult puzzle and only 5 people solve it, so winner of the difficult puzzle gets less points.

That's 15XP less for solving more difficult puzzle.

Idea is good but there has to be some upper maximum.

example1:Lest say upper max is 6XP
so if 20 people send correct answer, winner gets 6XP, 2nd and 3rd place get 5XP, 4th and 5th gets 4XP, 6th and 7th gets 3XP, 8th 9th and 10th 2XP and the rest get 1XP.

example2:Lest say upper max is 6XP
if 4 people sent correct answer, first one get 6XP, 2nd 5XP and 3rd place get 4XP, 4th place gets 3XP.

And lets say the limit for that doubling XP (2nd and 3rd place get 5XP) would be the case when we have more than 12 people sending the answer. Or there could be doubled points in both cases.

And ofc by the difficulty i don't mean someone's subjective opinion about the puzzle, but the reflection of the number of people who actually succeeded solving it, in comparison to the other puzzles..

Also thanks for the another awesome week and congrats to the other winners :)

All right, that's a good point: here is my decision: we will always count back from 10, if there are more than 10 people sending in answers then everybody at the end will receive 1 XP.

See the upgraded post above... :-)

Thanks for the comment!

Sounds good :)

Just theorycrafting here because there is no hard data yet under this new system, but assuming that the weekly xp bonuses (20 for 1st, 15 for 2nd, 10 for 3rd) remain the same, I think this new system will work out better. It should keep the leaderboard more competitive over the course of a month as the weekly xp bonuses will not carry as much weight relative to the value of a daily win.

Under the old system, weekly 1st place was worth 3.33 daily wins -- now it will be worth no more than 2 daily wins, and that's only if 10+ people answer each day's puzzle correctly over the course of a week. Weekly 2nd place was worth 2.5 daily wins, and now drops to 1.5 daily wins max. Most weeks, 2 real wins and sleeping in the rest of the week would've been good enough to take weekly 1st place while weekly 2nd place usually went to someone with 1 win plus a lucky draw (week 2 -- DBGs 6-10 -- was the notable exception).

This adjustment should help tip the scales more in the direction of consistent participation, and I think it will work out well. The harder it is to clinch a weekly/monthly victory earlier in the week/month, the better.

I totally agree :-)

A couple of other things came to mind.

First, what happens in the event that fewer than 5 people answer a puzzle correctly needs to be clarified. For example, if only 3 people get a puzzle right, I'm not sure if the reward table goes like this...

  • 1st place = 10 + 7 + 4 + 1 = 22 xp
  • 2nd place = 9 + 6 + 3 = 18 xp
  • 3rd place = 8 + 5 + 2 = 15 xp

or this...

  • 1st place = 10 + 7 = 17 xp
  • 2nd place = 9 + 6 = 15 xp
  • 3rd place = 8 + 5 = 13 xp

Which way it goes makes a big difference, as in the first example that leaves open the possibility of one person claiming 55 xp if they provide the sole correct answer, and a 30/25 split in the case of just two solvers.

Second, an idea for a suggested ruleset on how to handle creative puzzles with voting (such as DBG 39) in the future:

  1. A creative puzzle can only be posted on a Thursday; the full contest related to said puzzle would run through the weekend. Players have until Friday to submit answers. A valid answer should include the logic behind reaching that answer. There should be no awards for fastest or lucky entry.
  2. Friday's voting post should contain a list of the accepted answers in random order, as well as the list of all players who submitted answers that made the first list. Voting will then begin and continue until Saturday or Sunday (to be specified at the time of the Friday post).
  3. Every player who submitted an acceptable answer must vote for one entry that is not their own. Players should vote should by secret ballot (i.e. Discord, email, the normal methods, etc.), while the general public (non-players) may comment on the voting thread. A player who fails to vote should be disqualified and be ineligible for any xp or prize awards for the puzzle.
  4. The final post related to the puzzle should show the results based on player votes only. If there is a tie for 1st place, general public votes could then be used as a tiebreaker, followed by any other criteria that may be appropriate.
  5. XP awards to players: base award of 1 XP for full participation, +1 XP for each vote their best submission received from another player (limit 8). The winner then has their XP award increased to 10, and all other players have their XP awards increased by the same amount that the winner did (except in the case of a tie on 9 XP prior to augmenting the winner's total, in which case only the winner gets an XP increase).

That's about all I can think of for now.

I like these new rules. It sounds like a more fair and fun playing field.

Also, Congrats to all the winners and good luck for next week!

Thanks for your support, it's good to have you on board!

I think the criteria to select the first prize need some modification because first to answer is not really witty one as peoole don't see the puzzle at the same time (due to one or other reason) Had it been like that then it was fair to reward the witty one.

Yes, that is why I try to post at different times...

But still it is not neccesiraly witty one who gets chance to win but itz the lucky one who happens to be online at that time.
