Since the original idea behind these giveaways was to help redfish and minnows, and with the proliferation of autobots in the system, I believe we need a method of building REAL community. As long as I have enough Steem Power, I will be up-voting those who participate in these weekly contests so that at minimum participants will receive increased rank and a small amount of Steem. If each participant ALSO up-votes the others here, we will form a small community of little fish helping each other out! Participating here involves actually reading the post and making a reply, which is what the platform is asking us to do.

Each week's contest will require entrants to select a number between 111 and 666.

How this contest works

  • The contest is intended for lower-ranking members who could use the money (whales and dolphins are encouraged to upvote and increase the prize pool and/or comment rewards. Your support is greatly appreciated!).
  • The contest will run for 1 week and close on Nov. 8, 2017.
  • Entrants will select a number between 111 and 666 and in the replies to this post they will write, "ENTRY GUESS" followed by their chosen number. This should be the first thing they write, followed by anything they feel will add value to the post. This can be something as simple as a famous quote you copy and paste from the Internet (as long as you provide attribution), something of interest to you that you would like to share, a joke, etc.
  • The winner(s) will have guessed all 3 numbers in the correct order and if nobody guesses correctly, then at least 2 of the 3 numbers rolled by 3 6-sided dice rolls must be achieved or the prize rolls over to the following week.(NOTE that there will be no numbers 7, 8, 9 or 0). Example: Dice rolls = 456. Players guessed 152, 256, 416, 555, and 645. Guesses 256 and 416 would split the prize for each having 2 of the 3 numbers in the correct places.
  • The prize pool will consist of ALL the SBD earned by this posting PLUS a minimum bonus of 2 SBD to which 0.25 SBD will be added for each valid entry up to a maximum of 5 SBD added to the post reward.
  • In order to win, you MUST have upvoted the original post and written something interesting. @nnnarvaez will be awarding the most interesting comment an additional prize of a full-power up-vote at his discretion.

Upvoting this posting will increase the prize pool, so be sure to ask your friends and followers to upvote, even if they are not entering!

The winner of Giveaway #0021 (last week) will be announced in a separate posting.

With separated posts, I can start the new contest at any time of the day and post about the last winner after pay-out without having to worry about being there exactly at pay-out and quickly making and posting the new contest.

A bit of background about our sponsor:

@nnnarvaez has shown that he truly cares about this platform and is doing his utmost to make this a better place by using his expertise where it will do the most good.

  • He is attempting to create incentive for people to comment on articles and actually discuss things.
  • He believes that scripts can be used to do the 'heavy lifting', freeing people to engage in more discussions. As an example of the good work he does, @nnnarvaez built the script that runs the good bot Jack.
  • He has worked with @steemcleaners to hunt down a 3,200 account bot net and protect innocent accounts.
  • He has just recently set up his own server so that he can help add blocks to the blockchain and keep Steemit running smoothly as a witness. I highly recommend voting for him as a witness.

@nnnarvaez has discovered a Canadian witness that he believes is worth supporting and recommends you also vote for @guiltyparties as a witness.
To vote for a witness, you need to be logged in with your active key, so have it handy when you are ready to vote. To vote for witnesses not in the top 50, simply insert their name into the text box at the bottom of the witness list and click on the VOTE button.

Great sketch! How many can you make in a week? How long does it take on average to make one? Do you usually leave them as pencil sketches or colour them in?

Thanks man !
If I want, I can make one each day. I suck at coloring the skins. I only color the clothes and shadows sometimes with black pen and sometimes with color pencils.
I don't sketch often. I used to sketch all time in past. But that habit is gone now. I only sketch when I feel like I wish to and I have time. I have classes from 8 am to 2 pm, then a little sleep, after that some outdoor sports, then some indoor sports, then I take my time and check out Steemit.
It takes 1 hour on average. But coloring takes 1-2 more.
I can sketch many things and many things more I can't.

Hope I have answered all your questions.

Yes, you did a wonderful job of answering all my questions. Thank-you. This is the kind of information that you should automatically put with the drawings you upload. It makes the drawing more personal and engages the audience. That way it goes from just being a picture to a picture with meaning and a connection to the viewer.

Haha.. If you want, you can check out some other sketcher far better than me. @helene, @anonimous, @apprentice001.
If only I had met this guys earlier, I would have kept sketching because their art or sketches makes you want to challenge yourself.

.I used to do that. But after seeing hardly any upvotes on my sketch posts felt like my sketches were not worth for better upvotes.. It demoralized me somehow. :p

I'm sorry you were demoralized. I'm feeling a bit that way now with what I'm reading about this platform. Don't take it personally. It is not that your sketches are not worthy. It is just the way the platform works. It is very difficult to get any exposure here. Look at how much money I gave away and still get hardly any real interaction. People just show up to grab some money and leave. They have no time or intention of making an effort to engage. This platform was intended to have engagement and build communities. I'm trying to do that, but competing with the bots is not an easy task.

I can't understand your pain as I have never tried to giveaway.
If you were 1 year earlier, you would have probably been successful.
I think the only way to make everyone build communities it making it somewhat like facebook.

First step should be to make this webpage a little colorful.
I think it fails to attract people. I feel the same way as while I am writing this, I can see only black letters, your pro. pic and the white background. Nothing else !

When i was a kid about 8 yrs old or so, i had that burning passion about drawing and arts. I remember well i draw my dad and show it to my mom. As a proud mother (like all mother in the world to their son) she ran immediately to grandmother and show the piece of my work to her. And grandma exclaimed "Boy! you draw well your school janitor" 😉...I was dispointed and ashamed to tell "its daddy you know?"

Lol.. I wish I could see your drawing :D

Congratulations on earning the up-vote trail!

Haha.. Glad to have started sketching.
Thanks to you :)

Entry guess 616 ( I hope you don't mind that I have copied and pasted the exact same message from your other aritcle )

I find it a damn shame that people think this platform is dying, I do not use facebook or instagram or any of the normie social media.

This is my main social media outlet, I do not trust facebook or twitter and I thought I finally found a place that is secure ( not tracked by ad bots) and interesting (not reposts of buzzfeed shite)

The money aspect is a bonus for me, although I never though, or still think that I will make lots of money off this site, doesn't really matter, what I liked about this site is the slightly more strict sign up process to this place.

I do not put in as much time as the "average" social media user, I guess I just count myself lucky to find myself not addicted as most people I see nowadays

It's what I asked you to do, so of course I don't mind.

That's cool that you are here for reasons other than monetary. It is people like you that will keep the place going after the big money has been made and taken out. The burning question I have though, is: Who will keep the servers running when there is no longer a profit in doing so?

I don't know, maybe they need to change the currency to something people think will last. Maybe then people will stick around to maintain the servers. I'm only new to steem as a currency and there seems to be declining enthusiasm for it. A damn shame I tell ya.

Congratulations on earning the up-vote trail!

I swear this comp is getting smaller and smaller despite the prize getting larger and larger. You really need more exposure. Perhaps using some resteeming services? You could put aside 2SBD a week for upvote bots and resteem bots, this way you get more exposure as you'll end up in trending and hot.

Another thing that might be holding people back is the fact that the prize can jackpot so no one wins. Perhaps making it if you get all 3 right, you win 100%, if you get 2 right, you win 66% and if you get 1 right, you win 33%. This means there is at least a 1 in 6 chance of winning.

If more than 1 person wins, just split it evenly between them!

Everyone already wins an up-vote. @nnnarvaez awards the best comments with his up-vote and voting trail, so there are no losers. I always had a winner before with closest guess, but was told to change it so that the prize could roll over and get even larger (as it has done from last week). Its a social experiment and we'll see how it goes.

As for re-steeming services: NO; I refuse to use bots and wish everyone else did too. It is these bots that are destroying the platform in my opinion and exactly why I'm running this contest. I want to get back to ORGANICS. REAL people doing real curating and participation.

I agree with you that these bots are destroying the platform but it's become the only way to survive.

As for the closest, I'm the one who suggested you change it LOL

I know it was you. I just didn't want to say it. Let's see how this works for a while and if it needs further adjustment, then so be it.

Let me chime in here on the contest and on the bots. First, the contest: in its current state each valid entrant has a 16/216 chance of winning a piece of the prize pool. That means a 200/216 chance to miss, and if everyone misses the prize rolls over. As of right now I see 5 valid entries, so the chance of a rollover is (200/216)5, or just over 68%. It takes 9 valid entries to have a 50/50 shot of giving away the prize each week. If the prize rolls over enough times you will definitely see people show up from nowhere and participation will grow.

Now, bots... not all of them are as controversial as the pure upvote bots, as I've seen a few useful ones around. But as far as the pure upvote bots go, unfortunately @cryptoeater seems to be right. I follow and regularly upvote two guys who both produce quality content that interests me, as well as run their own contests. One guy has the curie curation trail, the other guy uses bots. The results aren't even close. The curie beneficiary has a small group of regulars for his contests but it's not really growing, and his posts don't earn anywhere near what the bot user gets. Prior to the bot user really getting into using the bots, he had a contest in which I was the only entrant. Several weeks later and the next contest of that same type, he's got over a dozen participants and still 3 days left to enter.

Personally, I think the ideal usage of upvote bots would be for newbies/minnows producing quality content to utilize them until they grow large enough to have a regular following and thereafter don't need to rely on the bots. The unfortunate reality is that there are folks who intend to use the bots as a crutch for their entire time on Steemit, including those who only produce plagiarized and/or trash-tier content. The market can sometimes solve things in weird ways though... imagine if the price of STEEM collapsed and made it so pure upvote bots weren't worth the investment.

Then my only hope is that the price of steem makes bots useless because I'm still resisting the urge to give in to them. Once addicted to easy money it's not easy to stop using those bots. And we all know what bot-vote use does to the social aspect of this platform.

I agree that not all bots are bad and that some are very good. It is up to us to decide which type we want to use.

Congratulations on winning the up-vote trail!

ENTRY GUESS 222

I've gotten adjusted to the new graphics and layout for Steemit pretty quick, although the night mode looks a bit weird to me. What has gotten more of my attention is the recent drop in the price of STEEM. I don't know what's going on in the market, but I do wonder if there's a bunch of people who are cashing out and abandoning Steemit because they're not getting rich enough quickly enough, or if it's because they're losing faith in the platform. If it's the latter that could be a problem. But if we're shedding some get-rich-quick folks from the Steemit community, I don't think that's such a bad thing.

Personally, I kind of hope the price stays low long enough for me to accumulate 1,000 Steem. THEN it can shoot up.

ENTRY GUESS 364
...I have noticed most people don't believe it when you offer them something for free, they suspect strings are attached and are often correct. It is a minority that seize opportunity! Thanks for the opportunity!

Thanks for your entry and comments. I always post an image proving that the pay-out was made. Anyone can go to the winner's wallet and confirm the transfer. This is blockchain... nothing is secret.

I do have strings attached... you need to post something of interest and contribute to the prize pool with your up-vote. I'm attempting to shift mindset here. I'm trying to bring the platform back to the original vision of a gifting community.

ENTRY GUESS 233, i shoulda go to sleep right now but steemit won on my mind

The prize will be large, so you need to put more effort into writing something of interest along with your entry guess. Perhaps tell us what you think of Steemit's new logo and colours, or about your experience with all the problems Steemit has been having? The rules of the contest require that you write something that could be interesting to the community. We are attempting to build a cohesive group here.

Oh ok so my sentence will be : work for live, don't live for work ;)

Entry Guess 516
Maybe we shouldn't go so far with winning because it will start looking like The sin of Greed and as the Medieval theologian Thomas Aquinas said Greed: "it is a sin directly against one's neighbor, since one man cannot over-abound in external riches, without another man lacking them... it is a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, inasmuch as man contemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things."

777 The more you give, the more you receive. Just like steemit! 😀👍
