Yeah, this is straight out of a Lovecraft book, the protagonist driven to hallucinating madness by meddling with things man was not meant to meddle with! I guess you are familiar with Frank Belknap Long's story The Hounds of Tindalos, where the demonic creatures were materializing through the angles in a room and the protagonist, in a paranoid rage, had to obliterate all angles and make the room like a sphere!?
Yes! such a great story, and definitely an inspiration for this story here! Also another story I read once involving painting a room completely white so that an evil pattern couldn't find her...
