Guess the music quiz! #5 (SBD Payout share)

in #contest6 years ago

Last week we only had a single winner, with a correct guess for the "Moonlight" Sonata by Beethoven. Easy money!

This week, some easier options?

Rules

  1. Upvote.
  2. Try to guess the pieces of music from the image of the score below!
  3. Include a Youtube embed.
  4. First correct for each one (with video), will take the 25% share for that image.

Last week's winners

1

@morodiene: Beethoven Moonlight Sonata 1st movement. Here's a version by Evgeny Kissin live that I particularly enjoy:

2

@classical-radio rakes it in with the Fandango from Boccherini!

3

@classical-radio: Midsummer Night's Dream, one of the best compositions by Felix Mendelssohn! (EDIT: I had to replace the example, the other sounded like obese fairies...)

Hints.

  1. There are 8 parts.

  2. One of Bach's most famous pieces.

  3. A cellist will really hate to play this one!

Just a wild guess. Could no.2 be Chaconne in minor?

Is #2 Bach’s Air on a G String?

Yes, well done! 25 percent for you!

As a cellist, I obviously didn't even hear the video before posting it. But since it had the word "rant" I believe it's a good video for #3, Pachelbel's Canon:

The second one is the second movement of Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068, famously known for Wilhelm's arrangement as "air on the g string".

The first one... Well I guess some kind of fugue, but I just don't have the time to search further. The clefs are interesting and I guess they could lead somewhere, if someone wants to pick it up and win some sbd :) it's gotta be easy, since it sounds waaaay too familiar

Edit: HA, found it! It's the 4th movement of Mendelssohn's String Octet in e-flat major! The hint helped a lot, as did the clefs in finding it was a string octet, then the key also helped :)

Nice one you got all three, but @proxytech beat you to the Bach. So 50 percent for you!

The octet is one of my all time favourite pieces!
