Best use of crypto i have seen is, using smartcash, to buy clothing via https://smartie.shop but i am biased :P in my view crypto to fiat is never a good use of crypto, just a sad current reality we are all trying to fix.

depends on the currency you want to introduce to your workers, a currency like steem is versatile, you can pay for products, check out @gardenofeden blog for products they sell with steem and there are other shops like paywithsteem.com. and again the steem blockchain has a lot of usable applications like steemit (social network platform) dtube (video uploads) dsound etc etc. with steem the practicality is visible
