Yes, although I don't know Zimbardo I believe what you're saying to be true .. equally that is a contributing factor as to why I didn't name him. He was also complicit in the abuse, I believe he relished the transient power it gave him .. indeed from memory I think he wanted to continue the experiment until it's bitter end and it was his girlfriend that stopped it? I shall have to check.

In this instance, I was simply using a recognisable example in order to create a narrative that displays how society is fermenting similar mindsets. But yes a cursory glance at human history viscerally reveals the power of control mechanisms .. equally whilst the prisoner is physically imprisoned, the guard is a prisoner of conformity and collectivisation over individuality and empathy, indeed from the perspective of the manipulator/social engineer they are both enslaved.
