Dana White says Conor McGregor will '100 percent' fight this year
It's not yet known whether Conor McGregor will take to the Octagon against Floyd Mayweather before the end of the year. The longer we go without anything coming up on that front, the less realistic it seems.
Though, UFC head man Dana White is out here pretty much guaranteeing that the Lightweight champ will ultimately fight before the 2018 calendar year is up.
In fact, White told reporters at a presser for UFC 223 that McGregor is 100 percent going to come back to fight this year, via TMZ Sports.
White also made sure that Conor knows he'll have to give up his 155-pound title once Khabib Nurmagomedov and Max Holloway get at it this coming weekend. The winner of that fight will take the mantle as champ.
It's way too early to know one way or another who McGregor might go up against in his next fight. Remember, the Irishman previously dodged Nurmagomedov in 223 — only to have Khabib's trainer put him on absolute blast by calling him the "only soft Irish I know."
There's millions of reasons why White wants McGregor back in the Octagon. UFC 223 might be a cash cow in and of itself this weekend in Brooklyn, but won't compare in any way to the popularity we've seen from McGregor. White knows this. And by continuing to put the pressure on McGregor, he's hoping something pops here soon.
McGregor has not fought in a UFC match since defeating Eddie Alvarez back in November of 2016.
