So... Confidential transactions
I am sure it is on the table, but I am curious about when this valuable layer of confidentiality will be added to the steem blockchain.
All the good arguments has been presented, I think it is just a matter of chosing what technology to go with, and I would like to hear a word from @steemit about it if it is possible.

But...Can't you do private transactions by sending it to your own alternate wallet, first? Maybe that's just a n00b thought, but it sounds legit. haha
Sometime in the next few months the BitShares Munich team headed by @kencode along with @Chris4210 will release Stealth transactions on the BitShares blockchain. Since BitShares is a graphene based blockchain I would expect this code could be adapted much easier than writing it from scratch. I expect sometime after the release and after the initial issues have been identified and addressed we will see it added to PeerPlays and other graphene chains.
I can't speak for @kencode or the BitShares Munich team, they may have a plan to recoop the cost of developing this that may require a license. That is shear speculation, we'll have to see how things unfold.

Steem isn't designed for anonymity as far as I know. If you want anonymity, the best option is to exchange Steem for Monero or Bipcoin, since Cryptonote forks are designed for anonymity unlike Bitcoin and most others.
