How To Speed Up A Slow PC

in #computers6 years ago

Is your Computer seeming like it has slowed down in recent months, does it seem like your device is all of the sudden obsolete and can't seem to handle the burden of your daily tasks with the ease that is used to? Maybe it's time you looked into seeing what the problem is, because it is likely that some of the slowing can be mitigated by actions that you can carry out yourself. Unless you are dealing with some sort of virus or malware then you don't really need a professional to help you put a little bit of extra speed out of your computer.

Now there are different types of slowness when it comes to computers, you could be experiencing a slow boot up or maybe a slow internet connection or you could be just sent the experiencing a general slowdown. this article is the first in a series and will focus on ways to address general slow downs on your computer. this type of slow down is the most common with slow internet connection in close second. they can be caused by various issues but none of them are too serious and actually pretty easy to address

The most common reason for overall slowdowns on a computing device is the fact that it has not been shut off in ages. often times when devices are not shut off for long periods of time they began to develop issues akin to fatigue. new device may be slowing down because it is overheating from over use and needs some downtime, so it is a good idea to shut down the device for a little and let it cool down if it is hot.

Another common corporate and sluggish computing are various background programs that may be running taking a cpu power. a good idea will be too disable any programs that automatically start when the computer boots unless they are necessary. this will make it so that it takes less time for the computer to start up initially thanks to low amounts of bloatware trying to start as soon as you initialise your computer. You can easily check these programs by opening the task manager which will show you the amount of cpu power being used by these items and give you the ability to in the processes right there. If the slow down seems like it is periodic then it is likely caused by a program running in the background such as a virus scan which can take up cpu power and slow your computer down.

The next step then trying to speed up your computer is too clean up some of your past space by deleting temporary files. Temporary files are normally stored on your hard drive and deleting these files can't help improve your computer's performance. It is suggested that using the windows disk cleanup utility to delete temp files and other files that you no longer need on the computer so that you avoid deleting things that you should not. Be aware that the disk cleanup may not delete every file in your temp directory so you should also try to delete the temporary files manually. You can do this by opening the start menu and typing %temp% In the search field. From there you can delete all files found in this folder there are not currently in use.

Step 2 and cleaning up space on your computer is too free up hard drive space. It is recommended that you have at least 200 to 500 gb free hard drive space because this place allows your computer to have room for swap files to increase in size as well as room for new temporary files. This can be done via the Disk cleanup as well as through typing Defragment ins the search box and choosing the first option.

The final thing you can easily do to address sluggish computing is to Run Driver and operating system updates. These updates could help fix bugs that are slowing your device down. Keeping your pc updated also helps thwart hackers looking to exploit zero-days and backdoors.

These steps should help create a change in the performance of your pc when doing tasks like opening files and navigating through the desktop. They are not intended to help increase internet surfing ability or boot up speeds. If you are still having issues you may have a virus or some hardware/software issues that need to be addressed by a professional. These techniques have worked for me when I have had issues thus far, so give them a try and let me know your results or ideas!

You have used simple words to explain difficult computer terms, and I appreciate that. Will now keep a close tab on your page for more

thank you there will be plenty of great posts to come

Very good tutorial with all the common problems mentioned.

If it's not a virus, usually it's too much junk that slows our computers down. This is great info and I will bookmark your article for future use.
