Allegedly abducted - A fiction - PowerHouseCreatives Contest
Allegedly abducted
The subway suddenly stopped inside the tunnel, The prevailing darkness and the lack of information from the operators generated a wave of murmurs. The sound was very similar to that produced by a swarm of boiling bees, a tense calm that would cut through the darkness with its sharp edge if not for the panic of an external detonation.
The beam of light illuminated for fractions of a second and the struggle to get out of the hermetically sealed wagons could be seen. Screams, cries, crashes, falls; everything was confused with no way out.
There were voices calling for calm, but nothing that anyone said at that moment would come to any ready ears because fear took hold of every soul.
"This is a terrorist attack!"
"We are going to die!"
"We're all going to die!"
Voices were being shouted at, chaos reigned, while nothing new happened, no one came in, no one went out, nothing sounded except for the screams, the hot flashes and the jets of sweat and tears that gave the scene, illuminated by fireflies from cell phones, the appearance of psychological warfare, because the minutes passed and nothing advanced, for better or for worse, and that haunted them because of the imminent mass destruction they imagined.
Madness took hold of some who began to break down the train doors.
"Don't do it! Don't do it!" - Shouted some who seemed to know more than others.-"There's a reason why the people who caused this didn't come in. If we open the doors, they'll come in and kill us all!"
But, desperation prevailed and the doors were smashed. The first people who came down, ready to defend themselves tooth and nail, were met by freezing cold and even more impenetrable darkness because the light from the cell phone flashlights was tripping over a dense fog, so thick that nothing and no one could be seen.
Some decided to move towards that nothingness which seemed to swallow everything, and others went back to the supposed shelter of the train carriages waiting for help which was supposed to come.
The operators appeared, advising to wait because the next station was very far away and they believed that it was a temporary situation. They said that it looked like one fault and not a terrorist attack because the detonation and the flash of light was produced by the firing of a flare that they activated to see what was in front of them, and there was nothing.
The complaints about the bad service were present, many thought that they could not wait for death without a fight, that it was preferable to walk in search of a way out and others decided it was better to wait, so two groups were formed: some would go and others would stay. If they were successful, those who reached an exit would send help.
Thus, in the midst of total darkness, a good number of people ventured to walk through the tunnel to the next station.
On the way, the group was decreasing without explanation, because no one saw anything strange, nor did they feel any screams, struggles or anything that would alert them that they were being attacked and reduced.
There was a deadly silence that was only broken when someone stumbled and shouted or some of those in front of them shouted: "Stay together!" They were advancing almost blindly, but they were gaining ground.
Suddenly, someone shouted: "There, there's a light in the background... We made it!"
And they ran and fell and got up, but they made it, they reached their goal.
"Gather round!" The guides shouted: "Don't let anyone get stranded, we must all get on the platform!"
As they went up, they saw the same scene as in the tunnel: total silence, no light, no movement, no people.
They went up the stairs as if they were running. There was no electricity, so they tripped over the steps because they were tired from walking so long.
Outside, everything was the same, the same darkness, silence and lack of movement. It seemed that a catastrophe had occurred and they were saved by being underground. But... what kind of catastrophe? It was as if all beings had been allegedly abducted because there were no people alive or dead, no dogs, no cats, no birds. Only a thick fog, as in the tunnel, walked through the city, where silence reigned.
There were no threats, no strange beings. But the more they walked the streets, the less they remained, and the strange thing was that you could not perceive the precise moment when they disappeared. So, without explanation or defense of any kind, they too became victims of what was swallowing up life in the city and perhaps on the planet.
There were very few of them left. Then, someone cast a doubt that went through everyone's mind like a bulls-eye...
"What if they really were the only ones not alive? What if this was death?"
Shocked, they looked at each other and, at that moment, they all disappeared.

Welcome to PHC, I'm glad to see you here @zeleiracordero! I like your story; I passed by that sentence as I thought it was one of the tougher ones, if not the toughest to work with, but then, I've never ridden on a subway train. :) I like how you cover the people being boneheads and doing stupid things over someone's guess about what has happened.
Hello @free-reign! All the alternatives were really interesting. I walked through each one too and suddenly this one winked at me, so I followed its seductive gesture and this came out. I was quite satisfied with the result because the mystery was catching me and I couldn't see clear light about which end to give it. I hope you like it.
I greet you with love.
Enjoyed your story @zeleiracordero and welcome to PHC.
