Levelling up happens simply by being logged into the game and continuing to do things around the Steemit site, as well as challenging other players to battles. Simple. :)
Here is a list of players, with their levels noted. I'd keep it handy. Clicking on a name takes you to their profile page, from where you can issue your battle cry. :D https://www.steempunk.net/SPN/Fighters
It doesn't have to be open, but you do have to be logged in. You can check simply by clicking on the extension icon, but each time you go to a new Steemit page you'll get the profile opening.
