2000 Followers and Two Screens This Week

in #community7 years ago

So, it finally happened this week. I passed 2000 followers! This is my thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to follow me here on the platform. Some of you even read my meanderings.

It’s been an interesting nineteen months since I joined Steemit. I’ve moved from someone cautious about the platform even being a place to write and make a buck or two to someone who has faith this platform will continue to grow and develop.

I happened across Steemit at a time when I had recently decided that I was going to pursue writing in a serious way. Writing on a site like this helped to keep my motivation up to follow through with writing.

I found community here and I’m grateful for that. I’ve been able to free up some time from my offline activities to spend more time on here.

Found a Niche With Curation

Not long after I arrived here I found that I enjoyed spending a lot of time reading other people’s posts. I started to form opinions on what constituted a good post. That realization led to me writing a periodic curation post called The Steemit Ramble in which I share my favourite of the current crop of posts I’ve read.

Curating Takes An Army

In September I opened a discord server to enable people to make nominations of other people’s posts. Since then it has evolved and will continue to evolve.

Curation is not a one size fits all process. With 70,000 people active on the platform somewhat daily, my little effort is but one of many. They are all needed to even begin to cut through the chaff and find the jewels amongst the diversity of the platform.

I’ve created a Curator role on the Ramble discord which gives those who curate well a place to put their curation posts. I encourage you to visit that channel when you’re hunting for good posts to read.

Radio Hosting

If someone had told me 19 months ago I’d be hosting a voice chat that was being broadcast on a radio network, I’d have thought they were crazy. Yet, here I am, doing not one but two broadcasts every Thursday since the first of October.

Pimp Your Post Thursdays are well attended and always interesting. @sykochica very kindly wrote a great post about what PYPT is

Broadcast on the SteemStar Network created by @sircork who has created and built @youarehope, a charity built on the blockchain.

What’s With the Two Screens?

After hearing repeatedly from so many that getting anything done with only one screen is pretty much impossible, I decided to stop playing around with the impossible and try out the possible. I added a 24” monitor to my laptop and have now joined the world of the multiscreen users.

I’m liking it so far. Had never really thought it would make a difference, but it does. I guess technically, I have three screens, I do use my tablet as a reference screen.

Shoutout to @thewritersblock and @thealliance

One of the discords I spend a lot of time on is The Writers’ Block. It’s likely best described as one of those local cafes where writers gather to write and help each other improve their craft. There are some really great people there doing wonderful work. I feel privileged to be part of them.

The other discord I spend time and take part is The Alliance. Under the guidance of @enginewitty and @michaeldavid, a family of active and supportive Steemians has developed there. In order to become part of @thealliance or one of the syndicates, you have to produce regular quality work and you need to be supportive of each other. I very much appreciate the support and try to return as much as possible.

There are other discords where I spend time and enjoy people’s company but I don’t want this post to turn into a 2000 word screed just to say thank you to the 2000 who have been kind enough to follow me.

@HumansofSteemit

One of the many neat projects going on is @ashleykalila’s Humans of Steemit project. She gives willing participants a list of questions to answer. They can answer as many or as few of them as they want to. As I was preparing this post, she dropped me a note that she had published my responses, which I’d taken forever to get to her.

So, before you hop on over to read her post, thanks again for being part of this journey.

Congrats on the followers! Now if you could only get them all to upvote you at the same time :)

The multi-monitor thing is a huge difference. Just wait until you jump to 3 full size monitors.

no joke, been doing that awhile now.....I also take Lutein as a supplement and make sure to look away at things not blasting my retinas all the time, lol

Woohoo that’s a big milestone to achieve

I am a big fan of two screens and often I am using three lol

First of all congratulation for the achievement.
I had also thought of going for dual screen but later had to decide on not to because of power consumption.

Gratz to reach this milestone...

It’s because you’re so amazing ok.

But on a serious note! Thank you for everything, especially your PYPT. You’re wonderful to us all. 🖤🖤🖤🖤

❤️❤️❤️

Congrats! As bland and played out as it sounds/is....Steem On!

oh and also on the multiscreens, .....welcome to the world of professional eye-darting he he

Congratulations! You've earned the followers and rep through consistent activity and contributions to the community. Thanks for sharing all the resources in this post. Oh goody goody. I have stuff to go check out that I didn't know about!

You're a busy person, Shadowy! Do you fit in a real job on top of being a Steemian, Discordian, Radio Host, etc?

You mean this platform isn't a real job? I'm shocked!

Congratulations! 2,000 and growing! That's some achievement!
