Thoughts on the "Experiment" after taking a break

in #community7 years ago (edited)

I still don't like the premise or execution. That said, I have noticed a few benefits. In the interest of fairness, I will try to see the silver lining behind the flag cloud.

  • My upvotes on comments add 1¢ even if I am the only upvote. That's cool, since I only have around 3600 Steem Power.
  • My counter-flag upvoting campaigns on this account and @goodguygreg have led to discovering a few new people to follow.

Yeah, that's all I've got. Sorry. I've been on a lot of forums, and all I know for sure is that flag wars never produce a net benefit. If you want a serious experiment, use a better methodology. Flagbots generate bad mojo, and auto-comments insisting the inevitable effects were unintended don't mean anything. Steemit does have some design problems to overcome. That should be expected in a beta release for early access and early adoption. Half-baked schemes don't help the community, though.

You can always redistribute your own Steem if you think more needs to go to other people. Maybe if the flagwhales were upvoting and resteeming newcomers, it would have offered a greater benefit to everyone. Just sayin'.

I have said this exact thing. But...notice that such an offer is never made by those who insist that others should comply with their demands under the guise of "fairness."

If the people who have such large amounts of stake think it's unfair and want it to be better distributed, they have all the resources they need to start that initiative themselves. If they're not interested, then that's all the proof I need that their words are meaningless and their actions are hypocritical.

If they want community involvement, they could run competitions and offer prizes. If @generikat, @papa-pepper, and I can do it, surely they can.

I sure can! LONG LIVE STEEMIT!

Post a Haiku! Get the Little Peppers in on the poetry! It's open until Sunday!

Remember that people can migrate to Golos, which is still in early adoption phase (it's like steemit was last August. See

Worth a look. I can always re-post my old Steemit stuff and see whether there's an audience. It's not like my Steemit posts will be read very much after the first day anyway.

When you post on Golos, you need to use the "en" tag, so that other English readers find you. The coin is cheap at the moment, so it is easy to buy and power up.

With the whale wars going on, how do you measure anything now?
