Raising Fund For Hope Worldwide Malaysia | Bolathon Charity Fun Run & Masquerade Walk 2018

Hi all, today's post is not related to my art but I want to dedicate this post to a very good cause - Hope Worldwide Malaysia's Hope Bolathon Charity Fun Run & Masquerade Walk 2018. All liquid payout from this post will be donated to support this charity event.

What is Hope Worldwide?

Hope Worldwide vision is to "Bringing HOPE, Changing LIVES" and their mission statement is to harness the compassion and commitment of dedicated staff and volunteer to deliver sustainable, high impact, community-based services to the poor and needy. It is an international, non-profit, and non-religious charity organization that is established worldwide spanning 6 continents, in 100 countries with the focus on 5 areas - Children, Education, Health, Senior Citizens, Employment, and Volunteerism.

In Malaysia, Hope Worldwide focuses on 3 main areas:

Health and medical

Hope Worldwide is running a free clinic called Sentul Free Clinic of HOPE worldwide in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur to meet the medical needs of the urban poor. There is also the Penang Free Mobile Clinic that serves the Orang Asli Settlement and urban poor community in Penang. These free clinics have been serving close to 80,000 patients for many years.

Food distribution program

The monthly food distribution program provides food and basic necessities to 100 families every year.

Education and empowerment

There are 6 different programs - Reading program, Creative Art program, 1-Stop IT Resource Centre, Robotics Education Program, Brighter YOU Basketball Clinic, and the School Sponsorship Program. These programs have been serving thousands of underprivileged children and youth for the past 10 years. Below are some of the photos taken during the programs:

What is Bolathon Charity Fun Run & Masquerade Walk 2018?

Bolathon Charity Fun Run & Masquerade Walk 2018 is a charity event to raise fund for Hope Worldwide Malaysia. The event is held every four years in conjunction with FIFA World Cup. The first Bolathon was held in 2006 and this year's Bolathon will be the fourth event. This charitable and fun sport-themed event is great for everyone including children. There will be two main activities - the 10KM fun run (marathon) and the 3KM masquerade walk. Those who wish to bring their children may participate in the masquerade walk.

I have been a volunteer at Hope Worldwide Malaysia for the past 11 years. Even though I have been a volunteer for a little over a decade, I have not been participating in Bolathon. This was because I was not in KL during the first event in 2006, in 2010 and 2014, my kids were still babies and too young to enable me to participate. And yes, this year will be my first time joining Bolathon with my children! I just hope and pray they do not fall sick prior to the event.

All the fund raised for this event will be used to support the charity programs mentioned above.
