In search for the meaning behind Promotion

What does it mean to promote? One definition should be glaringly obvious to everyone: To get a Raise. To get promoted means to move on up in your career or job. Where does pro-motion come from?

v. late 14c., "to advance (someone) to a higher grade or office," from Old French promoter and directly from Latin promotus, past participle of promovere "move forward, advance; cause to advance, push onward; bring to light, reveal," from pro- "forward" (see pro-) + movere "to move" (see move (v.)).

To the people who have been here for a while and have gotten to know a little about the crew behind this place it should come as no surprise that Promoted is the verbiage they used instead of Advertised or Marketed since it appeals to the audience that they are a part of or anarchists and libertarians who generally disdain Propaganda and the coercive and manipulative tactics involved in Advertising and Marketing alike.

A Brief Note

Quite some time ago advertising was generally virtuous and sought to promote the numerous things that people used to pride themselves over such as the hard work and innovation that went behind the product or service and then actual quality shined through, there weren't gimmicks or pandering to our irrational fears and desires, by-and-large advertising was a complete 180 than what we know today and products and services weren't engineered with obsolescence planned from the beginning.

Where were we?

The act of advertising or to advertise steems from

'Advertere', a union of 'Ad' and 'Vertere', jointly means “to turn (one's attention) to or towards (something).” The English word 'Advertise' is also linked to Old French word 'Advertir', which means “to (take) notice (of something).”

That is where we come back to promotion as "to bring to light" means kinda the same thing as "to take notice of something", yet promotion today means much more than that

activity that supports or provides active encouragement for the furtherance of a cause, venture, or aim.

It's plain to see then why Promotion is the verbiage used here, so then why is the Promoted page so abysmal? It talks about "encouragement", "assistance, aid, help, contribution" "boosting, stimulation", all in one word. Let's leave it at that and examine exactly how Promotion is supposed to work on this anarchist principled social publishing platform.

At the bottom of every active post (meaning rewards are still getting voted on) is a "Promote" button which brings up this dialog:

What happens when posts are promoted is that the SBD is sent to the @null account by clicking on the Promote button at the bottom of any active post (less than 7 days old).

Yup, the SBD gets burned and therefore our whole economy gets a boost by each single promoted post. It's freaking genius, and this, in turn, creates a demand for SBD which fuels our internal market, which if you didn't know about and are waiting 3.5 days for the conversion of SBD to Steem to happen is found under the hamburger menu next to the profile pic labeled "Currency Market" where you can pretty much instantly trade SBD for Steem and vice versa. So how come this brilliant idea is completely usurped and the "Trending" page is the home page? Why isn't the steemit homepage the Promoted page and in one swoop eliminate the need for bidbots while increasing both the value of SBD and Liquid Steem? Talking about the issues of bidbots seems to generate very little conversation especially in a constructive way, yet their proponents keep talking about promotion, so let's have a conversation and maybe we can start effectively reclaiming our reward pool, our economy and most importantly the very function of steem: To curate great content and help people to be published while rewarding their contributions.
