My thoughts about posting via DTube, Utopian, DLive and all other projects with delegated SP.

in #community7 years ago (edited)

If you post using certain platforms, your post gets more visibility from the account behind the platform and its more likely that you get a significant vote from them. This vote, by itself, could be the one making your post a succesful one -whatever that may be - and these platforms are supporting so many users it is astounding.

I have one word for these platforms and this situation: Awesomeness.

These platforms are improving the steemcosystem so much, and the amount of delegated Steem power they were given is being used correctly to encourage users to use these tools, to support Steemians who post quality content. I admire the curators behind these accounts because the content they vote on is great 99% of the time - solid percentage if you ask me.

The ideas and the people behind these projects is exactly what Steem - the coin - needs to keep getting stronger organically. We need more projects like these, and less bidbots, making good use of delegated Steem Power but that´s another story...

I´m not here to speak about these platforms and delegations or their voting behaviour because I wouldn´t have anything to write except: They are doing what they are supposed to, and they are doing it amazingly.

I´m here to write about the authors posting through these Steem front-ends.

First of all, these platforms were created to encourage mass adoption. The more people that posts through DTube, DLive, Utopian, Dmania etc, the more succesful the platform could be.

But lately, while browsing the tags used by posts that publish through DDU (DTube/DLive/Utopian), I noticed that some of them, had the same authors being rewarded over and over.

Nothing wrong with that, awesome content deserves great rewards and it is not in the curators side of the field to say who posts or who doesn´t, a curators job is to browse posts and vote on the content that deserves a vote in exchange of the quality and effort within the post, no matter who makes the post. As a matter of fact, the author behind the post is unimportant when you are curating, what matters is the content.

On the other hand, if we analyze this situation with a more critical eye, the same authors being rewarded over and over actually hurts these various front-ends.

But what can these platforms do if the same users keep posting amazing content 2-3 times a day? They are going to vote on it because the post deserves it and because their reason to be is encouraging more people to use their tools, by voting on the content that deserves it.

This situation got me thinking...

Content creator, Don´t think of @dtube/ @dlive/ @utopian-io as your personal clinched voter!

Think about it like this: Your content is awesome, it deserves being voted everytime and I won´t ask you to stop posting via these platforms, after all, you are helping to spread the word with your posts about these amazing front-ends and you, as a succesful content creator are helping mass adoption.

But everytime you post your amazing content, it takes away visibility from other people who are adopting or are posting via DDU (DTube/DLive/Utopian) for the first time. They might not get a big vote or might get a smaller vote because of your second post - that is amazing - of the day using DDU got a vote... we all know the reward pool and DDU´s Steem Power is limited.

We want mass adoption on DDU, and every post made counts, but if a newbie sees the same author being rewarded every day or twice a day - again, even if it is deserved - and they look at their freshly made post get scraps - and it might or may not deserve a big vote - they probably won´t use DDU again.

I know we all want rewards and if a posting strategy works for you, you will keep using it. If your amazing content is being rewarded by DDU, it is only logical that you continue posting using the front-end available that is supporting your content.

All I´m saying is: Give some room for new adopters, those who will help mass adoption, we need the numbers to reach mass adoption. So step away for a while, don´t post everyday using DDU.

Think of DDU as a great tool, but not the only ones, and not as your personal voter. Let other people receive some love too, because if you keep posting twice a day your amazing content that deserves a DDU vote, there are some newbies that will not get a vote, and they might also deserve it.

That is the reason why I use DTube once or twice a week. It might not make a big difference, but the way I like to see it is, if I am not getting rewarded every day, it means someone else is, and I sure hope it is a newbie.

Bottom line: DDU will keep voting awesome content, it depends of us if we let other users get visibility.

Well I would like to agree with you on both points that these platforms were created to add more value to the steeitm community and also only certain people or we should say those who are old here dominating the space.
The thing is they are experienced and early adopters of these platforms but there should be some mechanism which could help and boast new users like me who joined only three weeks ago.

May I ask what you want?

Just looked at you profile - not a single post via any of the above platforms - How can you complain about not getting any upvotes from them if you don't use them?

And stop talking something about only being here for 3 weeks, your old account (the one you use to upvote all of your comments with borrowed SP) is from September or something. Did I mention your old account ONLY upvotes you. Is that the adding of value to the steem community you are talking about?

There are definitely new users who deserve support. Someone like you, who is only trying to get quick money and then complains about not getting support is definitely not one of them.

That´s some serious detective skills, I guess SC need to know about this new friend with alt´s circlejerking each other :D

What say about that? Strong sincerity. 👍

Dude, impressive! Makes me proud of steemit

Good idea....😍😍😍

Btw, I never, ever, ever vote on my content on the first minutes, I uaually wait hours so people can get Curation Rewards out of my posts, but I voted it this time to try and give visibility to this post and reach more people.

We will forgive you this time, but only this one time! :D Great post btw, will do my first post on dtube in a couple of days, if I can find some time to edit my video...

I like your description "the Steem Ecosystem". As more people migrate from Youtube and Facebook, I think these platforms are going to boom and the price of Steem will experience a huge increase in price. You are correct... Awesome!

Hi - it's an interesting take directing this at the creators, but shouldn't it be directed at the curators?

From a cursory analysis of Dtube compared to Utopian, I get the impression that the threshold level of 'awesomeness' is A LOT higher on Utopian - whoever curates that really will just reward the best posts, irrespective of whether they're a new user or an experienced user (it seems).

DTube is another matter - there's just too much trivial rambling, let's call it mediocre content rather than low quality, getting upvoted by DTube!

I don't know enough about D Live to comment.

There is one thing that makes Utopian different from other platforms rewarding their users. Utopian has a serious reason to give its users such great support, because there is a huge work on optimizaion open sourced projects behind every post. If through Dtube people do post how they spent the weekend, then through Utopian they post how they improved Dtube.

For Utopian, it does not matter whether you're a new user or an old one, the amount of compensation depends mostly on the category of work done. If the post is about coding, fixing bugs in applications or analyzing data arrays, it will always get more reward than post in the category of "ideas for a website".

Why are posts made through Utopian always quality? Because they have 100% manual moderation and high requirements for contributions. Only the quantity and quality of the work done, its usefulness are matter here. If the post with the #utopian-io tag has no a reply from the moderator under it in 48 hours, then it means it does not meet the quality standards and will not receive an apvote from the Utopian bot. It will simply be published on Steemit under this tag.

I have no comments for utopian/dlive, but dtube is taking 25% of rewards regardless whether they upvote or not, and upvote is just depending the curator behind like the post or not. I don't think it is fair and that is why I am not posting using dtube anymore.

I didn't know this! Thank you for sharing . I just tried it yesterday and maybe its not something for minnows to use for this reason?

I never knew it either .. I was about to try out one - Dtube.. Thanks for the sharing.. as this info valuable esp for the minnows like me.

you mentioned lots of great Ideas in this article.
I believe D-Tube is going in the right way because lots of talented guys and gals doing their best and post some great content in it.
Some I am just waiting for YouTube to announce that there is a big competitor which is D-Tube and cold threaten YouTube to disappear lool

Thanks for writing this up. I hope it doesn't fall on deaf ears. Steemit can only become more attractive to content creators and viewers as the distribution of payouts becomes fairer. It's curious that they seem to push such large votes on a few people repeatedly when it would get people way more hyped with even a few dollar votes spread out here and there. I can see how it's hard indeed for those who are in the position to make something and get an almost assured chance to get a few hundred dollars worth from a post every time to not take the opportunity at every chance, but it definitely isn't the route to mass adoption.

Your way of thinking is good, I agree with you, share it with others, especially with novice steemians to be more eager to create quality content. If we make a post 2 or 3 times a day, then attention can lead to posts. and post newbie steemians will be missed, which may also be worth the vote.
