ImPRESSive Results ~ Special Hydro Edition
A couple of days ago, I popped up a piece about an unfortunate event at my house involving a small portion of comics. That can be seen here if you wish to share and partake in my pain. https://steemit.com/comics/@blewitt/water-comic-books-bad-times-3db3fa20bbb13est
The water only affected a 2-3 foot area meaning 99.9% of my stuff was unaffected. The downside was that there were some boxes of variant covers and other miscellaneous expensive books that went for a shower. Some of the books are completely ruined, some might be able to be salvaged and some I think I’ll be able to fix up and they will be perfect.
So I turned on the press and got ready to attempt to fix a few books. There are going to be several sessions on these books alone as there are a ton and it takes a ton of time. I did about 16 books today just to see how they would come out. Let’s take a look together.
The funny thing about this one is I JUST pressed this specific book about 10 days back. You can check it out here. Poor Elektra has gotta be tired of this shit...

Anyway, this is how the book looked after Aquafest 2018. Looks like dogshit. This is a $40-$60 Book. But not like this.
The press did a tremendous job. It looks almost like it did a few days back. If you look closely you can still see the outline of a few minor water spots. It’s hardly noticible but alas...it’s still there. Should still be able to salvage it and get $20-$25 clams for it.
Next up was the regular cover to Amazing Spider-Man #4. This is the first appearance of Silk. I’m really bummed about this as I had just found a stack of 25 of the regular covers and 4 of the Ramos 1:10 variants. Regulars fetch between $35-$50 bucks while the Ramos variant brings in about $100 on average. All 4 Ramos variants got hit along with over half the stack of regulars. That’s about a $1000 hit just on these alone. Ouch...
For today I just did one of each.
This is the back of the variant.
This is after the press...
Here’s the back of the variant after the press. What stinks is this one came out pretty killer except it looks as though there is a slight tear on it right above where it says DEGREE PERFORMANCE on the edge of the ad. Probably was wet and just rubbed against something causing the tear. Could have happened during the panic to move everything out of the way of the droplets of misery.
Either way, I’m pretty happy with the results thus far. Instead of my assessment of $3-$4 thousand dollars, with some time and pressing I might be able to cut that number in half. Maybe....
I’ll show one more today before Boeing you to death. This is Teen Titans #20 Variant featuring the first appearance of Lobo’s daughter, Crush. These are selling around $40-$50 smackers.
This is the ol’ after shot...
I also did a few other Wonder Woman’s that look almost like new and a Cosmic Ghost Rider variant that I ended up trashing as it was falling apart. Was just curious to see if the cover damage would come out or not. It did not.
I’ll be showing off more soon. I hope that it’s cool to see what the press can do. I know I find it fascinating!!! Till next tragedy!!!!

I am completely impressed by that Elektra and all the books, that press has worked a miracle I was unaware it could do. Already had one on the want list, it just ticked up the priority list a bit.
Yeah it's a bit nutty the miracles this thing can pull off. You looking for a used one...correct?
"Looking" is the word a person uses when they have money to spend on things that aren't rent and cat food at the moment. It's just one the imaginary list of things I can't afford but want (but it really did move up the list lol).
Lol...well in the meantime if you ever need any books pressed, I will press for some Steem!!!
Well, damn. That press isn't doing too shabby a job actually. Surprised that you've been able to salvage things as well as you have. Glad that you're not out 3-4k as well, though I mean it still bites monkey scrotum that you're out anything at all.
Yeah I am surprised it is doing as good of a job as it is on them. There are still a ton more and some are beyond any repair at all. It's all good though...there could be worse things that could happen.
If nothing else, that press will earn it's keep just by helping salvage some of the damage . It must be a relief to know that you can at least get something back from these books rather than a total loss.
Yeah it makes me feel a bit better. I am glad I didn't go through everything that day. I am glad I took a couple days in between to let me simmer down. lol
But yeah, I am a bit relieved that I can do at least something with them.
Very wise move. If you're anything like me, those couple of days could have been the difference between working out what you can salvage, and just throwing the lot out in frustration.
Yeah that and I was trying not to make my cousin feel any worse. I didn’t want to get upset myself and upset him more than he already was. Sometimes a little break in between the madness is needed.
Yeah, reckon he'd be feeling pretty bad as it was
Holy cow the results are really good I didn't expect them to look that great after the shower they had good job @blewitt
