Lately I’ve been going through my comic boxes and SLOWLY getting things organized. I was saddened to see this beautiful Elektra #2 Adi Granov 1:25 Variant sandwiched all cockeyed between the stacks. It just got dislodged and bent. It’s around a $40-$60 book and seeing that is basically like throwing away a $50 dollar bill. Nobody likes that....

Upon looking at it a bit closer, I noticed that oddly enough, the folds and bends didn’t actually appear to break any color on the cover which is a good thing as it means it can still be saved to a degree.

So i flipped on the switch to my big ass Dry Mount Press and got my Little Steamer ready and filled up. I saturated this bad boy...uh...bad girl, and popped it in with the proper settings. Watching closely as to not let the pages fuse together. If not careful new books can basically turn into a hockey puck. It’s nuts! I monitored it and then when I felt the time was right, I popped it in the other press to return to room temperature. Here’s the results...

There was really only 1 flaw which stayed. It was this little color breaking crease where the fold initially was. It kinda blends with the book so it’s not terribly noticeable but it is still there.

Either way, I turned a $50 book, into a worthless dollar box book, and with the press, I should be able to get $25-$30 bucks whenever it sells. Not too shabby. Thank you Press!!! Till next time...

Yikes! Way to go machine.

I'm a big Granov fan!

Lol. Yay machines!!!

Granov is awesome. He does beautiful work. He did a Scarlet Witch variant a few years back for Uncanny Avengers that I loved. I’ll try and dig it up as I have one.

I love seeing these pressing posts. The difference between the before and after shots is fantastic

Me too. Not only is it technically interesting, but it tickles those all important neurons dealing with:

  • tidying up
  • comics
  • adding value
  • puns (steemit, steam -it, get it!?) (just noticed the title, too!)

What’s crazy is yesterday I had a guy bring in a Tales of Suspense #39. 1st Appearance of Iron Man. It was a CGC 2.5 in an old label. He was interested in cracking it and resubmitting it. Thinking it could come back higher. I advised if he were to do that, to pay the $15.00 for the press as it could clean up a few little imperfections and that could help bump it which could mean hundreds to thousands more in value...all for just $15 bucks. He argued with me that I was basically just trying to make an extra $15 bucks. I laughed and basically said nevermind and he chose not to reslab it. Funny though...it takes a lot of time and effort to do Pressing and no offense, I wasn’t going to get Rich off his $15 bucks. I was trying to help him but he was too hardheaded to see that. So dumb...

Thanks!!! It took a lot of time and patience figuring out what worked and what didn’t. Lots of dollar comics ruined in the early days. Lol

But now I do it so regularly it’s like old hat. I do love when some books look like a completely different book. I’ll definitely be putting more of these up as I’ve got done decent feedback from folks on them. Thx for looking!!!
