First Appearance Friday ~ BANE
This week’s First Appearance Friday is going to take a peek at one of Batman’s baddies. You may saw him snap Batman in half in the early 90’s...or have played against him in some of the Arkham games...or maybe you’ve seen him portrayed by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Dark Knight Rises. Either way, chances are you’ve heard of the cunning maniac known as Bane!!!
Let’s face it...Bane is a pretty cool character. To sum him up in a nutshell, he’s a super smart, super strong dude who at one point in time, “Broke the Bat”.
He was created by Chuck Dixon & Graham Nolan and first appeared in the One Shot Special, Batman: Vengeance of Bane. That hit comic store shelves in January of 1993 and rocked a kickass cover by Glenn Farby. The book initially had a cover price of $2.50. Today in a rough near mint shape, copies command between $50-$75 bucks. CGC 9.8 Slabs will set ya back between $225-$275. Note that there is also a 2nd Print of this One Shot. Let’s take a peek inside...
After this, Bane went onto the classic Knightfall storyline that ran through the Bat titles where in Batman #497...the break heard round the world happened...setting off a chain of events in Batman history and introducing new characters.

I love all these villains and anti-heros. They are my speed. I never was much for following a hero that wins all the time against all odds. Takes all the fun out of it.
Totally...although Spidey is my main guy. Always a soft spot for him.
I was never that big of a spidey fan boy. I like obviously doomsday, venom, I have a huge punisher tattoo on my shoulder, bane, taskmaster, deadpool. I just like a more dark character. Not sure why.
Yeah I think he holds a place as the first run of books I collected was Amazing Dpider-Man. The run by McFarlane and Michelline. That run I must have read 50 times over and stufied so hard.
Also I just love his villains and the fact that he was pretty much a kid with a tremendous responsibility. Trying to juggle all that while figuring out how to just be a kid.

never read the batman much but I remember that story line. Pretty good!
Yeah it was really popular. Death of Superman & Breaking of the Bat were the 2 huge storylines of those days.
I'd say the climax panel for Breaking of the Bat is much more iconic though. I can barely remember anything about Death of Supes except maybe a simultaneous punch.
