Laying in Wait

Camouflage is everything for ambush predators large and small. Fitting in, hiding, blending in, whatever you want to call it is what allows these animals to capture what they need and survive.

Red Irish Lord-1.jpg

In some cases you make the best of your situation. In this case a large Red Irish Lord tried to hide among the multi coloured Feather Duster Worm on this flat sandy plain.

Excellent subjects to photograph ambush predators will typically sit still for you waiting for you to move rather than give up there hunting spot.

Looks like 1960's psychedelia art!

The patience required to sit still and wait for prey to come to you must be incredible. The gumption required to just survive astounds me sometimes. Love the photo, thanks for sharing!
