Technicolor Pachiderm Brightens up Town and Country … Chiang Mai, Thailand – Colourful Photography

Even at dusk, the vivid colors of this figure brighten up this street.

No golden hour, just a splash of color

As evening fell on this cloudy day, I passed this figure of an elephant that had been painted a vivid rainbow of technicolors.  There was no sunset to color the evening, but, as darkness descended, the light from the shop window was enough to provide a good dose of color. 

The Thai elephant is the official national animal of the country. Its numbers are dwindling, and it is now recognized as an endangered species.    

Survive and thrive

Most Thai people have an inherent respect and even love for this strong, hard-working, and intelligent animal. It’s a symbol and an icon of Thai history and culture, and one will see many figures such as this one in various locations throughout the country.    

Nevertheless, this and other such figures representing the Thai elephant will never be as beautiful as the regal pachyderm itself. One can only hope that the species will survive and thrive.   Location – Chiang Mai, on Google Maps
