FUN FACTS ABOUT COLOUR!

My entry into the Hello Hello Group Activity

WHAT IS COLOUR?
If you are anything like me, you probably take colours for granted. I never did Physics - so the study of the mechanics of colour eluded me until now. For this challenge I decide to clarify the mystery of colour, for my own benefit, but decided to share the results with you!

In my mind colour is one way I can perceive differences in an object. By this I mean, I usually describe an object by colour e.g. It is green apple or a blue car. So let's dig into the phenomenon known as colour! Here are some fun facts!

FUN FACT 1 – YOU NEED LIGHT TO SEE COLOUR
Its turns out that in order to see colour there must be light. This must be true because if you stand in a dark room you couldn’t see anything until you switch the light on. Bingo!

FUN FACT 2 – THE SOURCE AND QUALITY OF LIGHT DETERMINES THE COLOUR WE SEE
We perceive colour differently depending on the source and / or quality of the light source. Let me explain.

We are able to distinguish more clearly between similar colours on bright sunny day than on a gloomy one. Another example would be if you observed a colour in a room that had a blue light bulb and then switch the bulb for a red one, the colour would appear different. This leads us to the following fun fact!

TIP: Always work in good quality white light to avoid straining your eyes!

FUN FACT 3 –WHITE LIGHT GIVES US THE TRUEST SENSE OF COLOUR
This can be observed when “white light” passes through a prism. The rainbow colours appear on the other side.

FUN FACT 4 – THE SUN IS A SOURCE OF WHITE LIGHT
Fun fact 3 has laid the basis for this explanation. Rainbows only appear when there is moisture (water droplets) in the atmosphere. Usually on rainy days when the sky clears; the sunlight (white light) passes through the moisture in the atmosphere (which acts like a prism) and voila! – we have a pretty rainbow.

FUN FACT 5 – THE COLOUR THE OBJECT REFLECTS IS THE COLOUR WE SEE
Everything we see has no colour until it receives light. Whichever colour the object reflects is the colour we see. This will be affected by the source and quality of the light. For this reason under different light conditions an object will appear to be different colours.

If light falls on an object and it absorbs all the colours except red, then the object will appear red to us; similarly for any other colour.

FUN FACT 6 – WHITE IS AN INTERESTING CASE
If a colour appears white to us, then it means the object has absorbed none of the light but has reflected everything.

FUN FACT 7 – BLACK IS NOT A COLOUR!
When we see an object as black, it means the object has absorbed all the light and has not reflected any colour! Wow!

I have no idea who wrote this, but I received it from a mate as a meme on my phone, so he from past experience probably got it down off fb.
The post on colour was standard when I went to school whether one did physics or not. I think I first heard all that at about ten just last semester of primary. NOT having a go, mate. I am astonished at what was considered normal in the fifties and sixties and doesn't make it in to the curriculum nowadays. I hope you enjoy the bit of extra thinking material.
Keep on keeping on. 😇

Hi @simon62, I love reading this, especially this para below, thanks for sharing this and have a nice colorful day!

No worries. Always good to have that bit extra. 😇

Hi @rlt47, Greetings from #HHG8, this is such a wow! posting and so far one of my favorite colorful blogs. I never bother to learn during my high school time. Forget all those chemistry, science, biology and what not. I hated them too much. So this blog gives me a new light on what colors are all about. I suddenly feel I was flown back to those days of schooling time when the teacher started to talk about rainbow.... awesome blog and photos selections and for that here's my tip! Hope it will make your days more colorful. Have a wonderful, cheerful and colorful day!

Hii @rlt47
Thanks for sharing this article, very informative post

You always have something very knowledgeable to share. I got to learn many things about colours. Thank a lot @rlt47, Great job!
PS: will copy this comment to HHG8

@shanu - Thank-you, i'm glad you enjoyed the topic. :))

This is absolutely an educational post that many graduates not even aware about. Thanks for sharing....

@angelro - Thanks for the comment and support :-)

hello @rlt47, better explained impossible, techniques to be pending at the time of using a combination, even serves when taking pictures, although the cameras have flash, it is not the same to take a photo in the dark that with the light on, make the tests, equal to the time of making a digital presentation, the combination and moments to give it eye-catching are essential.
Excellent for sharing knowledge beyond color.
I'll publish it in the HHG8 brochure.
Happy day.

@rvag - Thank you for your encouragement and your wonderful comment.
